honest opinion based on the scenario

I purchased a set of volk racing te37sl 18x9 +40 and 18x9.5 +40 awhile ago. So the fronts came in but the 9.5's got postponed due to a manufacturer flaw and won't be available till mid February. The guys at evasive motorsports insist that a 18x10 +40 will fit without problems such as rolling lip or aftermarket trailing arms
I know 18x9.5 is a overkill for my driving style but I went with them anyway. I like to get some feedback as I like to make up my mind tonight or tomorrow. This car isnt going to be a huge power house so not sure if the wheels are way too big to begin with. This a street driven car only.

plenty of guys run 18x10 and they look killer. +40 is pushing it though, especially with no roll.

+45 - +50 is what most guys use unless theyre flushing it.
Here's a pic of my car on 17x10 with +48. No rub even at the track, but I have coilovers.

You think the tire profile of the setup mentioned would be about the same. I figured if the difference between 9-9.5 is 12mm or so then going with a tire 10mm wider would look decent. I know it changes the profile slightly. I would prefer a more conservative fitment and also have it protruding the same or roughly.

18x10 +40 should be fine for the rear as long as you aren't going crazy on the tire. Most if not all 285/30-18 will fit.

On the front I'd stick to the 18x9 +40.

I have 18x10.5 +45 in the rear and a relatively narrow 285/30-18 and have a lot of room to spare on both sides.

awesome, thanks for the info. I ended up waiting for the 9.5's. Going to be sweet regardless,
