High speed vibration

Hello all, I own an 88 gxl and when I jump on the freeway and hit about 75 an up the steering wheel starts to shake pretty hard. It seems as though the whole car is shaking. I had the front wheels balanced and it only improved a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance---------ren

I had a bunch of vibration on one of my cars once and balancing didn't help. I think the tire had gotten "out of round". I also had a bent rim on the back that made some vibration despite being properly balanced. I eventually replaced the wheels and tires and it was smooth and vibration-free after that.

Check for bent rims and uneven wear around the tire (as opposed to even wear for the sides and middle). Perhaps someone could drive beside you on the freeway to see if there is any visible problem with the tire.
