help quick! mismatched tires

Hi,

i run some yokohama avs intermediates (245/45/16) on my FD and one of my rear ones got slashed on the sidewall. Yokohama quit making these tires, so what should i do? is it okay for me to replace that one with say...yokohama es100's?

thanks

it's not as sticky a tire. I wouldn't mind driving on it. But wouldn't push it.

You should always replace tires in at least sets of two (basically tires that are on the same axle). Not only that, but that way, you will be able to get a good alignment.

Ideally, you should replace both rears. And with the ES100's being so dern affordable (~$90/ea.), it would be in your best interests. If the AVSi's still have most of the tread left (like greater than 80%), you could get away with buying just one tire. Although, I would not envy the change in ride quality ....

should i switch my pair of wheels with the es100 with the ones up front (the avs intermediates) or just put the es100s on the rear ??

With stickier tires up front your rear end will be more prone to coming out under hard cornering. The threshold of grip is going to be completely different for both tires.

If you put the stickier tires out back then you're probably going to feel your car 'push' during hard cornering. The back will have the grip, but the fronts will grab less, possibly causing them to let go.

All depends on your driving style I'd say. Personally, I'd put the stickies in the back for improved traction on the drive wheels. The car might push a little like I said, but it'll take some pretty hard driving for you to really notice.
