Help me understand...FC

Hey any mm minded gurus out there wanna help we understand wheel fitment and my widebody FC? What i want to find out is i think the "offset"... Ultimately i would like to see my rear wheels flush with rear fenders.. problem is that the fenders were supposed to be a small 30mm width.. but the installer effed up and now the apex of the fenders sit almost 4 inches outside of the face of the rim/wheel.... ( right now i have a set of motegi 18x8 rims) I assume the offset of each rim is different... so help me understand... heres a visual:

look at all that space... almost looks like theres no wheel!

there is a lot of info on tirerack.com and there are some offset calculators online here and there if you want more help.

but usually there is a simple answer if you get some quick info.
do you know your current wheels offsets and widths out back?
do you know how wide a tire you can afford or want to run?
same for wheel, if you could fit a 12" wheel out back could you afford one and want to run one?

looks like you can run a 10.5" wheel without any problems and there are tons that fit using mustang wheels commonly found for cheap, but your widebody looks prety damn wide...

oh yeah one more thing, are you still 4-lug?

Based on how taht looks it's very similar to a tripoint fender but your body guy is really horrible in trying to retain the factory lines of the vehicle. By pinching the fender you're gonna have a lot of rubber showing out the "middle to bottom" of rear fender when looking from the back of your car./

My flush setup with 355/30/18 on my Tripoint fenders = 50mm is about

18x11.5 +0

What's your budget for wheels?

FYI YOUR MOTEGIS MUST GO. NOW THAT YOU TRIED TO STEP INTO THE MAJORS, IT'S TIME FOR MAJOR WORTHY WHEELS. HEHEHEHE.....

Money is not an issue, i will pay for what fits and looks nice

looks like you can run a 10.5" wheel without any problems and there are tons that fit using mustang wheels commonly found for cheap, but your widebody looks prety damn wide...

YEAH.. its stupid wide.... im not necessarily concerned about the stock lines... i wanted it as wide as possible... but this was a bit over board, ill admit....

oh yeah one more thing, are you still 4-lug?
NO.. always was a 5 lug.

"Based on how that looks it's very similar to a tripoint fender but your body guy is really horrible in trying to retain the factory lines of the vehicle. Im cool with that look... i kinda wanted it actually... serious meats....

My flush setup with 355/30/18 on my Tripoint fenders = 50mm is about 18x11.5 +0

So thats a 11.5 wide wheel... with no offset? thats what the +0 means yeah?

FYI YOUR MOTEGIS MUST GO. NOW THAT YOU TRIED TO STEP INTO THE MAJORS, IT'S TIME FOR MAJOR WORTHY WHEELS. HEHEHEHE.....

Thats what im hear for. im looking at muli peice wheels so... im planning on spending a chunka. This car is insured for super full coverage and $20k in comprehensive " extra" to cover theft of the vehicle and upgrades.

Most people would call that "zero offset".

I hope you know what you're getting yourself into...
Work seems to have the most options out there, with their Meister S1 3P offering the most options.
A single Work Meister S1 3P in those widths is going to cost you at least $700 each.
The Work VS-KF's are a little cheaper, which just knocks off $100 per wheel.
(Keep in mind that I'm talking about street retail.)
Times 4, and you're looking at about $3,000 just for the wheels...
We haven't even talked about shipping yet.
Landed might jack the bill up closer to $4,000...
And we haven't even talked about tires yet...
Even the cheapest tires to cover those widths are going to cost you a minimum of $300 per tire....times 4.
So, in the end, you just dropped 5 LARGE for tires and wheels...

Hope your wallet can stomach that!

CCW down south in the US can custom build you a set of wheels once you figure out what sizes you want. (complete custom wheel). their basic mesh wheel classic style can be had for a bit over $2000 for a whole set of four and they will do free mounting and balancing if you ask nicely and coordinate the tires being shipped to them.

Ya John Purner has some affordable stuff, I can also get you some

AutoArt Wheels that are quite affordable but have a more street appeal to them.

FYI I made a typo

I run a 335/30/18 on my Tripoint, not a 355.

Yes. it can, thanks for the heads up tho.

Problem is that that doesnt answer my question which is... how do i determine offset and wheel width and come out with the right setup?

If your dimensions are right...
Add 4" to the 8" you already got means a 12" wide wheel will fit.
A 12.0" wide wheel in back...I'd go "zero offset" and run a 315 to 335 wide tire back there.

two ways
1. you measure it by going out to the car, and extrapolating the size you want by using whatever is on the car as a baseline.
2. or you can copy someone else's setup that you happen to find on the net and fine tune it for your own needs.

for instance, rishie posted

your fenders are 20mm narrower than his. it follows that a 11.5+0mm will stick out 20mm too far. this is a broad assumption, naturally, since fitment changes based on camber, height, tire fitment, etc. but you're just trying to get an baseline idea of a wheel size.

you could move an 11.5 +0mm 20mm inboard (to 11.5 +20mm), but that would require 20mm of extra clearance inside, but i'm going to assume hes near maxed on inner clearance. so you have to run a narrower wheel. wheels are stepped in widths of half an inch. one inch is roughly 25mm. since you need to find 20mm, you'll probably have to go 1 inch narrower. that leaves you with a 10.5 wheel.

now to select an offset... a 10.5 will be a full inch narrower than an 11.5. if offset is the same (10.5 +0mm), the faces of the wheel 'contract' by about 13mm per side. that's still 7mm too outboard for your 30mm fender (20-13 = 7). so we bring the wheel inwards another 7mm. you thus arrive at 10.5 +7mm. how bout inner clearance? since you 'gained' 13mm inner clearance when you shrank the wheel a full inch, moving the wheel 7mm inwards leaves you with 6mm (13 - 7) extra inner clearance relative to his 11.5 +0mm. in other words, its fine.

since wheels don't come in 10.5 +7mm, you'll be looking for something close. like a 10.5 +10mm. anyway i'm not suggesting you look for a 10.5 +10mm. just walking you through the process of figuring out what possible sizes are available for you.

another exercise...
going by at 18x8 with a 4" gap...
we need to know offset. assume its an 8" +40mm. you want to bring it out another 4 inches, which is roughly 100mm, and keep inner clearance the same

add 4 inches to the width. that leaves you with a 12 +40mm. the wheel has expanded 50mm on both inner and outer faces. since we want to keep inner clearance the same, we move the wheel outbound 50mm. that leaves you with a 12 -10mm wheel (40 - 50 = negative 10). i hope that helps. its far easier to visualize than to explain by text.

another quick way is to find a local guy with a mustang wheel that is 17x10 or 17x10.5 or anyone with a wide wheel or a shop that will let you test fit with a wheel off the showroom floor, etc and then see how close it is and what needs to be different in order to find the perfect setup. tire size plays a HUGE role in filling out fenders and also in having clearance issues.

I assume the 10 is a 18... yeah those are way to small, you could fit those under stock fenders.

seriously buy 10 inch wheels? haha.. no... type-0!

Front wheels 18x8 offset plus 40
Rear wheels 18x9.5 offset plus 20

For anyones future use.. the rear set tuck the tiniest bit too much... i may throw a 20mil spacer on there.. but not sure yet.. ive now gotta get past the large amount of negative camber these wheels and suspension set-up has produced

You can fit that under a stock fender... I don't see how its "tucked a tiny bit too much" with that massive widebody. Maybe if its a -20 offset. I agree with drftwerks.

Well, I've got 30mm front and rear fenders and I'm doing the same thing as the OP. I'm still looking for that perfect fitment. This is what I've gathered so far:

19x9 +23 with a 235/35 tire will fit up front
19x10.5 +18, with a 10mm spacer effectively making it +3 will fit in back, but you'd have some camber. The owner of the vehicle told me that you can space the back about another 5mm for them to be flush, but again, he's got a little too much camber out back for me. He said with 18's you wouldn't have to camber so much.

This is Havoc's car, this is what he said about his wheels/tires.
"Wheels are18's 285x30 rears and 235x30 front. Im thinking I will put 255's on the front once Im ready (9.5 wide rim on the front)"

Foresight car 30mm rear fenders
Got this info from drftwerks:
"the te37 have gtr face so higest offset is 22 i think.
prob 17 x 9.5
and 18 x 10.5"

Boostinmys5's car. Keep in mind these offsets are for 50mm not 30mm
rears, but it's a good baseline.
18x10-6
19x10-16

17x10-2 front (20mm spacer) under 25mm wide fender
18x10.5-5 rear (20mm spacer) under 50mm wide fender
18x11-9 work meister (no spacer)

Owenisfat's car. 30mm rear.
295/30r18 advan ad07 rears on 18x10 ssr sp1 +24 offset

I got the following info from Risky Devil. Rear wheels are 18x10.5 zero offset, 30mm rear fenders.

ARD T2 - 18x9.5 +15 and 10.5 +15 = WIDE FENDER FRONT AND REAR

Hopefully the pictures help you visualize things better. Keep in mind that tires and suspension play a big role in your wheel size options.

Thanks for the photos.. as they are fun reference.. but i dont need to visualize! ( no offense) the wheels... 18x8 ( +40 ) and 18x9.5 ( +20) are ON my car..... and they look freaking fabulous. Perhaps the guy who told me the offset was wrong... ( no wait, it had numbers stamped inside the wheels) I dont know what to say... but they look great.

The front needs at least another inch of wheel/spacer. The rear could def use the spacer.
