Hawk HP+ Pad Drag

Did anyone else notice that their brakes drag a little after installing HP+ pads?

I turned the stock FD discs to a good surface and while I was installing the pads found I couldn't use the shims because the caliper wouldn't open far enough. I know the pistons were all the way to the bottom because I had the lines off at the same time and felt them bottom. After 2000 kms they all still drag a little.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah, I can't use the shims either. My first set of HP+ was fine but my second set dragged on the rears a little until I finally got them bedded in.

The newer Hawks have shim material bonded to the backing plate. I have a set of HP+ in the box like that.

Have also had Hawk pads that exceeded spec thickness by more than 10 thousandths, which can cause the same prob.

what do u mean by drag? Is it the grinding noise like the pistons didn't open back up. If so, i do. How do i get rid of this....! I have cross drilled rotors, so i don't know if these can be turned. And after replacing the pads with the Hawks they squeal like crazy after they warm up. Had no problems with the Axxis.

My brakes just drag a little. When the car is on the hoist you can turn the tires, they just won't turn on their own. I think I need to wait until I get more wear on the pads, they are just too thick. My brakes don't / never squeal, I think that is a function of a proper break in

I don't have that problem.
Are the M-springs still good?
Maybe they are not separating the pads from rotor.
I have to bent my M-spring outward to spring them back to life...

Hmm, I did reuse the old ones. Maybe I better do a proper caliper service and get all new hardware.

Same problem here, HP+ only(drags When new). Carbotech, stock, EBC no problems, I've been through all four in the last six months so the info is pretty current. Carl
