Has anyone run 285/30/18" tires on a 9.5" rim?
the only thing that detered me from getting the 285 was that you would have to run 30 series on it, did'nt want to run that low a profile for the street and risk messing up the rim if I hit a dip...I know 35 series is'nt that big a difference but at least it got more thread than the 30 series..
Yes, people have done that. I have not done it personally. Few 285/30-18 tires are recommended for use on a 9.5" rim. Check the spec sheet for the specific tire you want to run. Here's an example of a tire that is recommended for use on 10-11" rims only:

I see that done all the time with SSR comps on FD's. It can be done. It's at the limit of manuf recommendations. I've actually found a couple that said 9.5, but most say 10.0. The cars I've seen doing this are avid soloII guys.
