Has anyone run 285/30/18" tires on a 9.5" rim?

I'm asking because I have the opportunity to buy some great used tires at a an even better price.

I have 275/35's too, but I have an opportunity to buy some 285's cheap.

the only thing that detered me from getting the 285 was that you would have to run 30 series on it, did'nt want to run that low a profile for the street and risk messing up the rim if I hit a dip...I know 35 series is'nt that big a difference but at least it got more thread than the 30 series..

Yes, people have done that. I have not done it personally. Few 285/30-18 tires are recommended for use on a 9.5" rim. Check the spec sheet for the specific tire you want to run. Here's an example of a tire that is recommended for use on 10-11" rims only:

I see that done all the time with SSR comps on FD's. It can be done. It's at the limit of manuf recommendations. I've actually found a couple that said 9.5, but most say 10.0. The cars I've seen doing this are avid soloII guys.
