Ground Control Kit w/ konis Installation Questions.

Hey Everyone,

I am trying to install my GC with konis. Is it normal for there to be a gap from the top to the spring??

I liked the ride height from who I bought the kit from so I did not adjust the kit and just installed the springs.

Yes that is normal. Once the struts are installed and the car is off the jack and on the ground, The strut will compress and everything will be fine. Also. I believe you are on the lowest setting. Raise the collar up to about halfways. Set everythin, lower car on floor (with wheels mounted). Measure height and then adjust to where you want it.

If there is a gap between the coil and the top mount and I go over a big dip and the strut extends all the way, wouldn't the spring just be loose for that millisecond? wouldnt that cause a problem with my suspension if the spring doesn't get positioned in the right spot after the car comes back down?

you basically need to get air for the spring to be loose, and B if it was loose, where is it going to go?

if it bugs you that there is a gap, you can buy helper springs Ground Control - Eibach Springs, Helper 250 Spring which are meant to take up that gap

Good point, I guess it was just weird to see a gap. Does it look like I installed it the correct way though? I initially thought I might have installed the bottom part upside down but now I'm thinking I installed it correctly.

The gap is normal.

What I did on the new setup was use helper springs with spacers.

Under normal driving conditions there is no issue, but with any spirited driving that brings a wheel off the ground the spring has a chance to not seat properly though I don't recall having that issue.

Bump stops would be a good idea.

You might want to call Fatcat Motorsports about some bump stops.

I have used others as well, but cannot at this moment recall where I found them.

nope its right. the height adjustment collar is flat on the bottom, the top side has a lip so the spring doesn't hit the threads.

in practice the gap between the spring and the top really only occurs when the car is in the air, or you have the shock out of the car, the rest of the time the car is sitting on it. and B there just isn't anywhere for the spring to go.
