I used the old GS-D's and they are not a good tire for performance driving. The D3's seem to be better, but Goodyear is known for having a soft sidewall.

If all you are doing is driving on the street, you can get a decent tire for much less. If you are looking for a performance tire, there are better options.

I'm actually researching tires right now for myself. The Goodyears have a reputation for hydroplaning very easily and I can say that my car does this:

I will not use Goodyear tires on my RX-7 again but I'm looking at a few more inexpensive options. I will say that the Goodyears to last for a long time, it's just the for the price, it's not worth it.

Yeah, I'm looking for tires myself. But...lookie here...

http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...howtopic=40747

Hee hee hee, I've been searching for months cuz I know I'll need new tires during summer.

I'm really consider Toyo T1-S right now...not so expensive, but ranked right up there.

The new Goodyears are what I'm going to get next for my 17s. I'll be getting the BFG KDWs next for my 16s. Both are great tires. I've done a lot of research on tires, some of which is on my site. Originally I bought the Firestone SZ50s. That tire is probably the best in the wet compared to any other Z rated tire and is one of the best in the dry. It is on closeout right now so prices are low. Goodyear is also having a rebate offer of $60 back on a set of 4 tires.

For the price of the Goodyears, I would do the Toyo's or some Bridgestone Potenza RE750 instead.

It really depends on your use of the car. The Goodyears are decent in the rain but have a tendancy to hydroplane. I solved that problem by not driving in the rain.

If you will be doing any HPDE with the tires, I would definitely consider something other than Goodyears.

For an inexpensive tire, I'm looking at the Falken FK-451's.

austinsFD,

I will prolly go w/ it because..

1. Right up there w/ S03 or Pilot sport in dry.
2. Better than most in Wet.
3. Cheaper than highest performing tires.
4. Should be better than RE950 or anything in its price class.

Mahjik,

You keep bashing the new goodyears but you had the old versions... I suggest you review Tire Racks test results for yourself! In particular performance in the wet is where goodyear's new tire excels. Personally when I look at these results I come to the conclusion that this tire is slightly worse than the S03 in the dry but better in the wet. Considering the goodyears are cheaper I'd go with them. Toyos are great too though.

I have looked at reviews of the tires (not necessary Tire Rack reviews as I've never agreed with some of the others from my experience).

Others commented on the soft walls of the Goodyears as well (and yes the newer models too) on other sites/forums. Like I said, it depends on what type of driving you will be doing with the car. Personally, a soft wall is not all that much of a concern for me on the street so it never bothered me. On the track it was a different story.

Yes, you are right, the walls are softer. You can tell from the slalom times in the one test. However the softer sidewall doesn't seem to impact other aspects of the test. However it is one reason I'll be putting these on my 17s where the sidewall is shorter.

I'm assuming these tires are to go on the stock wheels. 225/50-16 Kumho Ecsta MX is 40 bucks a tire less than the Goodyears and I think most people here would agree it's a pretty sticky tire.

But,

The MX is also way heavier than most.

Dis1,

If you think about Toyo, go w/ it. I was also considering Goodyear, but there are some concerns.

1. There are more posibility that you would get defective tire....than other brand. (imo anyway)
2. Toyo is also very good in wet and pretty good in dry...just like goodyear.
3. Toyo is cheaper and lighter
4. Combine all of the above, why not Toyo instead?

I have no experience with the F1 GS-D3, but my experiences with other Goodyear tires have not been pleasant. In the past, I've found them to offer poor performance compared to other similar tires. The set of RS-As that came OEM on my SE-R were particularly poor compared to the competition.

That line of reasoning doesn't quite work for me.

For example: Bridgestone RE92s that come stock on the WRX are really crap. Does that mean that the S-03 is crap as well?
