G2 Brake Caliper Paint Sucks
G2 Brake Caliper Paint Sucks
I painted my '99 RZ calipers and rotors last night with the G2 brake caliper paint.
How do they look? Well, in two words: Like ****.
First, I painted it in very thin layer so it doesn't run. Well, it doesn't have sufficient coverage to hide the raw metal underneath. So I painted a second coat. IIt was still splotchy. I waited the required 15-30 minutes b/w coats and painted a 3rd coat. It seems to hide better.
With all the leftover, I painted my spare UIM just to see. Well, it looks like **** too.
Then I hung everything away to dry. Well, this morning, the damn paint ran.
I wouldn't do this again. May be I'll strip this paint and polish the calipers instead.
It's a good thing that the calipers are inside the wheel, otherwise I'd be ashamed to drive around.
May be the Folia Tec is better but I wouldn't recommend G2 at all.
I would post pictures but it would be deceptive in that you can't see the runs in the paint.

LOL FOUR months to paint my calipers!!
Anyways, the foliatec paint seems pretty good. It is a laquer. You have a "hardener" that you mix with the paint. The paint will still run on you. However, I did what pomanferrari did by adding coat after coat...you end up with a very thick layer of paint. I remember jimlabs pics and it almost looked like the calipers were dipped in paint!
Incidentally, I did paint the top of the can and let it dry...I then sprayed brake cleaner on it and tried to rub it off....WOOT! Stayed on! Seems pretty durable. I will try some brake fluid next and post some pics later.

check out the new dupli-color kits. i picked one up for $8 at a local store, usually go for $15. i used 3 coats on the front and 2 on the rear. they look excellent with no runs or marks. i also have about 75% of the paint left that they supplied. comes with brake cleaner and a brush too
