few strut qustions...stock vs aftermarket
I got a squeaky RR strut and am doing a new set of springs and struts and was thinking to my self... the R1's a=have the stiffest strut made for all rx7's ( i think) and in 94 they softened them... well to upgrade you would need to buy stiffer, so I was thinking koni yellows, then I aslo thought why not just get stocks again they work great dont they? ANYWAYS would it be worth geting some konis or is this little thought of mine a good thought... I'm puttng h&r's on the what ever stuts I end up getting so all ideas and suggestions are welcome
Socom
also wheres a cheap place to get some struts... every penny counts

i don't know much, but i woudl think it depends on your goals for your car. if you're auto-xing or road racing you probably want coilovers. if it's just a street car and you want to drop your car just a bit i think stock r1 struts with aftermarket spring will be just fine.

Well, the FD has "shocks", not "struts".
IMO, I would go ahead and replace the shocks at the same time as the springs. To do them later, you'll have to do the same labor. Probably the cheapest place you'll find will be http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/konifd.htm .

I've been buying shocks, struts and springs from Shox.com since I started driving in the late 80s. They have excellent prices and great service. I had to return a Koni and a Bilstein once for warranty work and it worked out very smoothly. Unlike Rx7store that never answers the phone or return calls or emails, shox.com has great service and will stand behind the manufacturers warranty and they have great prices.
fwiw, i'm running H&R springs on stock shocks and am pretty happy with the setup on the street. very nice ride quality using the stock shocks. the konis respond quicker but aren't as cushy. it's all about what you're looking for.

Unless you plan on regularly tracking or auto-xing the car, I would just replace any damaged shocks with OEM parts....from Malloy Mazda of course. The Konis on full soft are near the R1 shocks in damping rate, so the Konis won't really allow you to soften up the ride. There is certainly no reason to run stiffer shock settings for street use!
