That's a very nice candy apple and I don't like red. I'm sure those pictures don't do it justice and for most it would be an aquired taste. The big name brands have colors which stand out (Red, Gold, etc). So why not Racing Brake but I would think (candy apple) blue or another color instead of a variation red allready used.

Seems like I'm in the minority here, but I would like to have an OEM color match option... I think the Mazda magnesium grey looks quite purposeful and discrete. Red seems to shout “HEY LOOK AT ME!!!”
I'm not wanting to build a show car. I just want better better brake performance.

i am in the finish stage as to installing Burnout rear flares so my wheels clear. i expect to be out of the barn by friday and will post some pics. i currently have RB900 front pads and RB500 rear pads. the streetish RB500s fronts should arrive next week and then i should be able to do some initial testing. i will also receive some rear racepads shortly and will be at Blackhawk immediately.
i do think that the front calipers will come in real red BTW.... i plan to put the set i have on my Bass Boat. (just joking RB)

According to the racing brake forum, the Rx7 preorder people actually prefer powdercoat over their standard Hard Anodize? SERIOUSLY?
Was there a vote that I wasn't aware of 'cause I"m one of those pre-orders and I'd MUCH rather have one of their "Standard" Anodize colors. ESP the grey.
Am I the only one who feels that way? Why do people want powder coat?
FROM RB:
Hard Anodize Red
Hard Anodize Black
Hard Anodize Grey

That red actually looks good but I would prefer blue. I don't understand the need have the brakes scream "look at me". That's just another probable cause for an officer to use his radar or pull you over.
That black looks greyish to me? I don't like the grey. It looks like something off the shelf. I guess if you want to be subtle and match the OEM rears but then you could just paint the rears black to. I think those 3 clolors would match alot of cars. If they don't add blue, I would most cetainly choose black. My car is white but it would be silly to get racing brakes in white.

I too vote for the anodized coating (black). That's what I currently have on my AP's and it has held up great. The red powdercoat on my Porsche Brembo's has done well too, but with the frequency that I change track pads, I think the powdercoating is going to get chipped by my channel locks pretty quickly.

Well, just to clarify, I don't know that it is open to a "Vote" at this point.
But I asked on the RB forum about getting mine annodized blue, and they said ,
"Here are our standard anodizing colors. Other than these colors we will not be able to furnish other custom colors. However based on the feedback from RX7 pre-orders we are changing to powder coating. With powder coating there will only be red and black available."
Which lead me to wonder what feedback they had recieved suggesting we want powder coat.

If I were in the market for these, I'd be all over that hard-annodized grey. That's hot. Unique, business-like, and understated all in one.
I'd worry about a red anodized part fading. Some of the original BBK's for RX7's (like from Farrel and Pettit) had red anodized calipers and hats... and they turn pink, as did virtually any red bike part i've ever seen.
I'd also offer up that you'll want a color that can be replicated for the rear stock caliper by you... and anodizing will make that tough, FWIW.
This looks like it's going to be a great kit. You've gotta love the fact that new high tech stuff is still getting developed for these 14 year old cars.

Our current calipers are powder coated with standard red and black. The powder coating surface is soft (hardness is measured by pencil grade) and is easy to get scratched, also due to it’s thicker than liquid paint it’s also easy to chip, although they can be repaired by touching up as the colors are more common to match.
With our new designs, we decided to improve the surface hardness by hard anodizing which has a very hard surface that is highly resistant to scratch, dent and no coating to chip. However due to the nature of process the red color is not quite as “real red” it’s more like a burgundy red as you see from Howard’s picture. The black is a satin black instead of glossy black like powder coat – They are not gray depending upon the viewing angle of your monitor the color may not represent the real color. The only draw back is touching up is not as easy as powder coat.
Hard Anodize Red
Hard Anodize Black
For hard anodizing we originally intended to offer this “greenish gray” which is also an available color to substitute traditional glossy black for people prefer not to use red. We thought it should be a fairly good coverage for silver, gray, blue or black but Howard expressed he prefers real black so we went back to black.
Hard Anodize Greenish Grey
Please understand that due to the production efficiency and inventory cost we can’t offer the choice on the coating process (hard anodizing or powder coating) nor we like to offer custom colors.
One process that we are developing is to have the advantage of the above two processes ie. having standard paint color yet resistant to scratch and chipping which is to have the caliper hard anodized and then coated with liquid paint which has a much thinner coat than powder coating. It basically changes the burgundy red to real red and also provides glossy finish (with anodizing the surface can only have matt finish due to sand blasting) but we have to test the resistance to temperature and brake fluid or oil which may cause the delay of this project.
For those members already have placed pre-orders we allow you to vote your choice of color and process (powder coat, hard anodizing or liquid coat) knowing if liquid coat is the choice the delivery will be extended to end of July and this has to be decide within 3-5 days.
Cast your vote here:
http://www.racingbrake.com/main/caliper_color.asp
- Only two most popular colors will be furnished.
- All preorder customers will be notified to cast their votes.
- Deadline to vote is 6/14/07 customers w/o voting agree to accept the voting result.
Result will be announced 6/15/07
We hope the above will clarify all of the color and finish issues and thank you for your understanding and patience.

I'm very leary of selecting a process which hasn't been proven out "a la" the liquid paint thing. Also, just putting paint over annodize wouldn't change scratching. It's still a "soft" compond that will be susceptable to scratching. When we design parts for durability we always go with annodize as it stands up to all sorts of abuse from chemicals and tools.
Also, with the glossy things: They'll look that way until the car is driven and dirty. Matte finish would be matte finish whether clean or diry.
I still like the hard annodize. The powder coat looks like something that you can get in a can at Pep Boys. Annodize speaks to quality, durability and business
