FD Brake Caliper Rebuild Question...

Ive Got some FD calipers im putting on my s3 fb rx7 using the RESpeed big brake kit.. Ive stripped them down and as you can see with years of **** and salt from the UK roads they looked ok i thought..

After an hr of cleaning them with a brass brush and a pad they come out looking light this with some slight marks still..

Top view..

Just wanted to get some thoughts on those areas that still showing some marks if they still in usable condition or if i should get new ones. ive never rebuilt calipers before so just throwing it out to get some ideas if their usable..

Thanks

The lower wider portion is what you need to make sure is completely smooth. That's the part which will slide back and forth in the caliper. If those are smooth, you are good. The upper portion doesn't need to be too well kept.

That's a shim that will come new with the new set of brake pads you'll buy.

Required? Not really. A good idea? Yes. I know people who had run without them (mainly because they lose them), but it's a good idea to use them. As mentioned, they are a shim but they also help provide even contact with the pad as well as absorb some heat. There was a forum member selling some titanium shims a few years ago.
