Has anyone run a 275/35/18 up front on an FD with a custom rim?

I know that the 285/30/18 is preferred but I would like to run this tire as Toyo RA-1's only come in this size. I don't want to run a smaller tire (not as wide).

I have a hookup on them is the reason. My other other choice is a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup with no hookup yet at $300+/each!

I also want to run a 305/35/18 out back which I don't think will be a problem. I'm running 18x10.5" CCW's all around. Andy McKee (West Coast AutoX SCCA champion) ran these wheels with no problems on his car.

Anyone run a 275/35/18 up front on an FD with coilovers and custom rims?

Check overall available diameter on the front wheel well to make sure. Lock to lock is my only concern. It's pretty tall tire for the miniscule front wheel well of the FD.

Rishie- Andy McKee said he ran it once on his car without problems... same rims/offset/size.

I was wondering if anyone else can confirm this will work before ordering them.

 

I've bolted them up with a 45mm offset(i think...) wheel that was 10 inches wide...and they'll rub on stock springs lock to lock but with coilovers...they should be OK.

At least I hope they will be because that's what I'm going with...once I get coilovers...and 295 30 18s in the rear.

I'll also be rolling the fenders front and rear for a little extra clearance.

Almost everyone running 275/40 17 tires up front has rubbed right through the fender liner....those are essentially the same size (taller actually).

You'll have to run stiff springs at close to stock ride height to come close to pulling that off.

 

pbbtt...fender liner. who cares as long as I ain't hitting metal to metal with anything...its fine. once it rubs a hole in the fender liner...i'll know how much to tuck it up and patch the hole with a little more plastic

After going through the fender liner, you'll rub right into the wiring harness. Try pricing one of those from the dealer smart guy.

 

I have 265/35/18 on front. It really depend on your set up. on my set up since the coilover I use ( APEXI N1) is very short stroke. and my ride hight is pretty hight so I dont have this type of problem

I just bought 245 40 18's for the front, and i am lowering the car 1.4 in the front. and i am hoping to not rub. I wrapped a 18 with a 225/45/18 off a G35 just to get it to the shop, with stock ride height, and it still rubbed in the front. Just a little info...

How can people buy things without even knowing what they are doing?

225/45 is an inch too tall, 245/40 is 3/4-inch too tall

proper tire sizes would be 225/40 and 245/35

 

The problem isn't as much the width, it's the change in tire diameter. You can hit the fender liners with the stock tires and suspension if the conditions are right. Now picture a lowered car and tires that are 3/4-inch bigger in diameter. It's not a question of IF you will hit the fender liner, it's a question of how bad?

Running a 275/35 18 up front is just not a good idea. If you really want the ability to rotate tires, I would recommend either running a 265/35 all around or going with 285/30s.

 

I'm biting the bullet and getting some Pilot Sport Cup 285/30/18's.

Rynberg, I knew about the change in diameter but I don't have a fender liner, I originally want'd to go with 265/35's but went with 275/35's because I have 335/30's for the rear.
