Falken Beta Short Review

I've had these tires on the car for about 2 weeks now and figured I'd give my impressions.

They are 235/40/17 up front and 255/40/17 in the rear. Went from Yoko A520's to these.

The biggest improvement and it is a HUGE improvement was ride quality. I switched from R1 springs/struts to Eibach's and Touring Struts and it made a dramatic improvement in ride quality but the switch to these tires blows that out of the water.

I could drive this car 10 hours straight now, its so much more civil and enjoyable to drive.

Straight line traction is also great. I'm pushing 320ft lbs from 2200 rpm up and it just hooks up and goes. I even get traction pretty decent in first gear, something that was missing before.

Cornering/Feel, feels more sticky although I haven't really pushed them.

I did take them to the track, 120 miles and 14 hours after I got them and they felt greasy but I didn't really push the car.

I would not call them a track tire, but the ride quality is so good that my first decision was to get a set of stock 16's and some R compound tires specifically for the track.

I'll have to try TR-1's to compare ride quality but the ride quality makes the car more driveable than before that although there may be better tires out there I'd stick with this one for my next set unless the TR-1 is superior in that aspect. I can still hang it out and have it come back so it remains neutral on the street.

I think I paid $570 installed.

Thumbs up

I am running the same tires exc 265 in the rear, great tire for the money. Switched to them from pirelli 7000's. I ran them at a roadcourse event in april and they performed great. Got stuck in a couple rainstorms, no problems. Straightline acceleration is vastly improved, no more wheelspin in 3rd or 4th (370 rwtq). I've got ~ 4k miles of "spirited" driving on them and they show little sign of wear.
