Experts, offset help plz

I'm interested in some 18" wheels. My car has stock body and stock suspension but I will get koni + tein s-tech/eibach pro kit soon. I want the wheels and tyres to be as wide as I can get without sticking out of the guards. Not fan of big stretch but little stretch is ok I guess. If you want I can post pics of some of the forum members cars which show how I want my wheels to sit.

I want the setup to be staggered. One question though, does a healthy staggered set up must have at least 1" difference between front and rear (eg. 8.5f - 9.5r) or can it be 0.5" (9f 9.5r)? Cause I want to go as wide as I can and I know the front fits almost as wide wheel as the rear.

If they don't have the offsets I want in stock they'll order for me specially which means I can't return the wheels if they don't fit. So the decision has to be spot on. Plz help, thanks.

The wheels I like come in the following sizes:

based on that there's a great fitment.

18x9 +45: run 255/35/18

18x9.5 +40: run 275/35/18

Enough said, that's what you want to get and you'll be good to go. No need for other opinions. You were pretty thorough with your explanation.

Thanks Rishie!

One more question though. I have noticed on most supercars with staggered set up and on some of this forum's members' cars the rear tyre sidewall is -5 then the front. (eg. f 255/35 r 275/30 or F 235/40 R 266/35 etc.), why is that? why did you recommend 35 for both f and r?

I called and the wheel shop only has 18x9.5 (+30) in stock so they'll have to order with no return/refund/change policy.

So it all comes down to what's available in that model of tire that is closest to stock tire diameter.

If you want to maximize the tire width then you would need to go with the sizes I recommended.

275/30/18 does not exist so you have to ever so slightly up size in diameter to find somehting readily available.

Optimally 255/35 and 285/30 would be the way to go BUT 285/30 VERY EXPENSIVE and RECOMMEND 10" Wheel.

I am planning on running 255/35/18 or 265/35/18 on my 18/9.5+18 for the front and 285/30/18 on my 18/10.5+18 for the rears on my fc.

yo RHD,

if you do 265/35 up front it will be taller than your 285/30 so i wouldn't suggest it. On the FC i'd stick with 255/35 up front and go with the 285/30 or even 295/30 for a nice match in tire diameters. If you do 265/35 front then go with 295 rears to close the gap in tire diameters.

i don't mind a taller rear tire than front but taller front just trips me out.

I've seen this on the 99 spec FD where they go 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 but I think they only did that due to lack of other options in 17" diameter.

Eh with a 5 month old daughter my hands are so tied up it's taking me longer to get products loaded into the new shopping cart and stuff. I am sure we'll have it launched in January, at least with some stuff.

Since we're 99% wholesale, I only retail/hookup rotary guys, the website isn't a huge revenue generator for us. Fortunately our business can stay alive with the old school, email consulting method.

Thanks, Rishie

Yes I have a FD.

And this is roughly how I want my wheels and tyres to sit:

I would like something more aggressive like the one below, but I think it'd take some trial and error as well as minor body and suspension work and if I ever wanted to go back to standart or less aggressive wheels it wouldn't look nice.

I don't know what your professional advice would be but I am thinking something simple can be better in the long run.

Can't answer your question without more decision on your part.

1. What size tires do you want to run? Don't think about the wheel, tell me about tire sizes. Front and Rear.

2. Are you willing to do fender modifications?

My next step up with rolled fenders would be

18x10 +41 front
18x10 +29 rear

I'd run 285/30/18 all around. I actually found a lot of affordable brands in this size now on tirerack. It's not like it used to be 8 years ago.

No particular tyres sizes in mind. Anything from 265 to 285 in the rear is fine and staggered front size accordingly like 245f/265r 265f/285r etc.

I guess if I can afford it then 285 in the rear with matching wheel, if I want to lower the cost then 265 in the rear with matching wheel. It'll all depend on the overall cost and availability.

2. Are you willing to do fender modifications?

Minor modifications yes, major fender and suspension modifications no. I can roll the inner lip of the fender a little bit but don't want to pull the outer lip of the fender out like some people in the forum have done.

My next step up with rolled fenders would be

18x10 +41 front
18x10 +29 rear

I'd run 285/30/18 all around. I actually found a lot of affordable brands in this size now on tirerack. It's not like it used to be 8 years ago.

I would prefer a staggered set up and even better if I don't have to rollt the front fender I think 18x9 or 18x9.5 is fine so if you can recommend something with narrower tyre would be great.

I found this in another thread:

Thats about the LIMIT on both stock front and rear fenders, I have not rolled my fenders yet but I plan to as I do rub during hard corners, and I have lightly clipped my front fender once with the tire... a +45 to +50 offset would be perfect with this set up.

Ok then my original suggestion stands. Go with that setup.

9" and 9.5"

Final update: I decided I want to run 255/35 in the front and 285/30 in the rear. I'm willing to roll the fenders (not pull the fenders out). I have all stock suspension at the moment but will change to koni shocks and eibach pro-kit springs.

Which 18x10 offset for the rear exactly?
Which 18x9 or 18x9.5 offset for the front exactly?

Has to be spot on cause I'll have to order and wait a long time and the wheels are no-return/refund/exchange.
