Dumb Coilover Height Adjustment Question
OK so I have the Tein Flex coilovers on my FD. The instruction manual is as helpful as any other japanese manual.
I figure the way you adjust the height is by moving the lower seat spring up and down.
I wouldnt have a problem with this, but when you lower the seat the spring actually loses contact with the top. I understand that when the weight of the car is on it that this won't be a problem. My question is this:
Could this create problems as the suspension extends? Would the fact that the spring could become unseated cause undue stress on the coilovers.
I know that under normal driving circumstances there won't be that much travel, but under certain circumstances it could happen.
Anyhow, just wondering what the thoughts were on this. I guess I could be adjusting wrong, but I couldn't see any other adjustment point.

You are adjusting the wrong thing. You raise the lower spring perch until the spring is held in place, and then maybe another 1/2 to full turn (which slightly pre-loads the spring). You set ride height by adjusting the lower set of collars.
If you don't have a set of collars below the lower spring perch, then you don't have the Flex model.
If you don't have a set of collars below the lower spring perch, then you don't have the Flex model.
they are definitely the flex model. so i should be adjusting the lower bracket...got ya. not very easy to adjust later is it, then? i just thought they wer easier to adjust once on the car.

Yeah on the FD once it's on the car, it's hard to adjust the lower bracket. You have to loosen the spring seat to allow the body to rotate. I ended up rising the spring seat because I thought the original TEIN setting didn't have enough compression travel.
