Question drilled and/or slotted rotors? which brand?

i would use the search button, but it doesnt work. so my question is: is there one type that is better than the other (drilled and/or slotted)? and does anyonye have any good brand names out there? besides the obvious brembo? also, any experiences with prices....stopping...fading...ANYTHING WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

thanks, eric

What are your goals? The drilled will crack on the track. The slotted probably offer little advantage over solid rotors. I'd just get the Brembo blanks or OEM rotors and be done with it. All of the brake upgrades (with the exception of M2's Wilwood kit) will require 17" wheels to make space for the larger rotors/calipers.

Read this to fill you head about brakes: Good Reading i's from GrassRoots Motorsports magazine.

I went with slotted rotors and have had them for over one year without any issues. I got them from Alamo MotorSports and they were listed as KVR Performance or something like that. They wound up being from Brembo and were just repackaged. Very nicely priced. Check them out.

I would go with Xdrilled for normal daily use. You cannot turn slotted rotors. -Gabe

You CAN turn slotted rotors just as easily as you can cross drilled rotors. I have PowerSlot rotors on the front and rear of my RX and on the front of my Yukon.

Corss drilled are very prone to cracking and their only advantage is their savings in weight.. And almost none in in cooling. So unless you are at a point where you will notice a difference of 3lbs of unsprung weight they are not a good option.

If you're a serious track junkie, not sponsored, and not a bling bling person, go with a blank or slotted rotor. They work just fine and remember, rotors are "wear item" that needs to be replaced very often on a track car.

Altho x-drilled rotors has less metal (thus less heat sink), they offer good ventilation so it offsets, or overcomes, the disadvantage of having less heat sink. They are much easier to crack under extreme driving condition (track driving). Even under normal driving condition it would crack sooner than the other 2 kinds of rotor.

But if you don't track your car, want a better look and don't mind changing rotors a little more often, then go for the x-drilled.

i went to the website and i looked at what you were talking about. my question though is:

did the 91 n/a and 91 turbo have different size rotors? because i see that there is a "RX7 89-92 w/261mm Rear Discs" and a "RX7 89-92 w/273mm Rear Discs "

i have a base model coupe and i am not sure what i have in the rears, ANY HELP? thanks!!

I think some had vented rear rotors and other models did not. Non-vented rotors are thin (pads squeeze a thin, solid piece of iron) and vented are thincker with vents between the rotor surfaces. A quick web search could turn up pictures if my description is lacking. The different diameters listed are probably just another way to identify them. I know my 88 Turbo 2 had vented rears, perhaps the base models have solid rotors (not as good as vented).

It is my understanding that Brembo doesn't make any drilled or slotted rotors for the RX-7, but that you can start with Brembo blanks and drill or slot them, and that is why you see them available.

Brembo does make both slotted and cross-drilled rotors for the FD, they just don't make slotted AND x-drilled rotors. If they're both, they've been machined by someone other than Brembo.

Ah yes, you're right; I see that they have drlled OR slotted on the brembo.com site, but not drilled AND slotted.
