does tire profile alter my pressure requirements?

i am wondering just that. if you have a 16" rim or an 18" rim (with the same outer diameter tire) do your tire pressure requirements differ? your sidewall stiffness changes im sure. for example pettit suggests particular pressures for various suspension setups... do those need to be adjusted depending on how thin or thick your tire is? i know a low profile tire definately FEELS much different... but at the same pressure as a stock tire does it perform drastically differently? if so how would you compensate? -heath
