Question Does any know how come there are different bolts pattern numbers.

I just want to know how come there are bolt partterns like this 5x112/5x114.3/5x120
and in different number, I know the 5 represent 5 bolt and not so clear to me what does the 112, 114.3 and 120 meant. Thanks in advance

Or in the case of 5x4.5, 5x4.75 that's the distance in inches. 5x4.5 = 5x114.3 btw.

The different number of studs is down to vehicle weight, power and so on, a small car doesn't need as many studs as a large one because the forces are smaller. The different distances are standards used by different manufacturers, but I don't know why there's so many different ones and why they don't just standardise to fewer more common ones.

its because japs and germans and americans all hated each other back in the day. so they made opposing lug patterns. "that'll show em!"
