Do I really need the spacers on my wheels?

I put my Summer wheels onto my Fc the other day. I bought them froma forum member, They're 17" O.Z. Ruotes. Searching the internet all I get is that the style was used on the Lotuse Esprit.

When I bought them they we're given with a ~1/2" spacer fro the fron and rear. I stopped using the rear since it put the wheel out too far for the hubcentric rings to fit. But up front a bit of the ring still fit with the spacer.

When I put them on yesterday, I realized I forgot to put the spacer on up front where I thought it was needed. I drove the car about 2 miles without it. When I got home I saw the rings sitting in my garage and realized I forgot them.

I ran my hand behind the wheel and it clears the springs and struts by about 1/2" (one finger width). I had a friend turn the wheels while I watched and never saw it contact anything.

So do I really need a spacer? Where should I look closest for any sort of contacting of the wheel to a suspension component?

It would help to get width and offset #'s?
Else, can you measure backspacing?

up front they're 17x7.5, I'm unsure of the offset.

the wheel has printed on it 71/2Jx17H2 and then show ET35. Maybe the ET35 is offset? searching around made it look like the ET is the offset, so it must be offset 35.

So you think I should use a spacer or, will it be alright without it?I am on stock suspension still.

Yep, 35mm offset, you're fine without them.

That's good to hear. Those spacers always made it tough to get the hubcentric rings to touch the spindle and line the wheel up. only like 2mm of the hubcentric ring made contact. Now I needn't worry about putting them on.

You don't need the rings though, it's just a conveniance thing so you can torque wheels on the ground.

The rings are pressed in flush to my wheels and do make it easier to mount. They were only $7 from discount tire direct. I'll leave them on, otherwise the wheel doesn't line up onto the studs correctly when I take them off as easily.

I ran without them for the 1st few month I had the wheels in 2005.
