The Kumho SPT is a pretty good tire, I have a set and I'm pretty happy with them (that's my review on the tire rack site).

There's a test of it on the tire rack's website where it's tested against the Yokohama ES100, the Goodyear Eagle RS-A, and the General Exclaim UHP.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/ge_exclaim_uhp.jsp

Here's a test of the 712, the ES100 (also in the SPT test, so good to compare the 712 to the SPT), and the Sumitomo HTR ZII.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...e_you_more.jsp

I've read that the 711 is significantly worse than the 712, which is not a widely loved tire. From what I've read the 711's are barely good enough to keep the car off the ground.

For the money it's a hard tire to beat. It has decent amounts of dry grip and handling, it has excellent wet weather traction and handling, should last a reasonable length of time and it's really cheap.

I'd definetely get them again, as they're an incredible bargain.

I have no experiance with the Dunlop though.

I just installed some spts...I agree with Black91 for the price there pretty hard to beat. really good in the rain and they track straight as an arrow, dry grip could be a little better but they give you a nice feel for the limit before they go. the only down side i have noticed which may or may not be to you, is that the sidewall seems a little tall. I have 245/45/17s which with the Kumho mx line is about right for daily driving plus autocross but the spts seem to be alsmost 15% taller. I would buy them again but would go with 40 series.... just my two cents

According to the tire specs the 245/45/17 SPT is actually slightly shorter (0.1") than the same size MX. Are you sure you didn't have 245/40/17 MX's, as they're nearly an inch shorter.

245/45/17 is the wrong size, it's too tall, 245/40/17 is the correct size for that width.

I agree with the dry grip point, they're not the best for that, but for a tire with a 320 wear rating they're pretty darn good. To get more grip you'll have to sacrifice tire life and most likely go for a more expensive tire, making the whole tire cost rise substantially.

It's not that big a deal, your acceleration will be a little slower, your spedometer will be off by a bit, and there's an increased chance of the tires rubbing, but other than that, it's ok.
