Difference between 35 series/40 series tires....

So then I'm running some tires right now that will probably last me a few more months. My next set will be Khumo MXs.

Front: 245/17
Rear: 265/17

But I'm torn between on which series to get: 35 or 40. My current series is 40 and they're not too bad, I can feel bumps and rocks and what not. However I've been told I can also run 35 series so I would like to know if there's a dramatic difference between comfort and noise between the 2 series.

From what I know, 40 series will be a bit more comfy, less bumpy. 35 series will have better feedback when turning, and possibly rub my fenders.

Suggestions? TIA.

you got it backwards about the rubbing possibility. The 40-profile tire is bigger (larger o.d., given it's the same width) and will therefore be more likely to cause rubbing problems.

What you should be basing your decision on is your desired overall diameter, and the availability and price of the different tire sizes.

Doh, yeah thanks for the catch mks, I got it confused and meant to say that 40 series might rub if I go too low on suspension.

For me my main concern would probably be ride comfort since with stock suspension and 40series I have no trouble at all.

Any other comments?

235/35/17 and 265/35/17 are too short for your car. the 35 series are for 18-inch wheels. I don't even think the MAKE a 265/35/17.

I'm not aware of any tire makers that offer the above sizes anyway...

if you dont like bumpy you do not want 35's. i dont think you will ever need that extreme handling. also curb rash will be terrible. 40 is the lowest ill go now but currenlty i have 45/17 on the car. ill probably move to 40/18 though. the 35's i had came with the wheel package and it was not nice after a month of 'racing' around. if your ok with 40's and think the stiffness is great, i think you could live with 35's easy.
