Angry Curb Rash!@#$ What to do about it?

Damnit! I just bought my new wheels 6 weeks ago and they were almost perfect. Yesterday, I really messed them up. I grinded the driver's rear rim bad. I am so pissed! I bought them off the forum and I know it would be close to impossible to find these wheels in the U.S.

I guess I just needed to vent.

Hey man, I like your FD. Nice Wheels. Are those the ones you messed up?

There are places that can make your wheels look new again. wheeltechnologies.com is in the Dallas area, but I'm sure that you have places in the Bay area to do this as well.

I feel your pain. I know it's a fine line for me, since I insist on parking as close to the curb as possible so cars don't park so close to me that they door ding me, that sooner or later I'm going to get too close.
As far as repair goes I can't help you much, but I do recall seeing ads in the back of the auto mags for wheel repairs, you might try one of those. Good luck.

Frank

i know, i know.

Up from the grave..blah blah blah

Quick question, what is the average cost to have curb rash repaired nowadays?

I got some nice rims with some minor curb rash, and i was just wondering what are the prices some of you have paid?

thanks.

Just call some places which do the work and get some quotes. That will be much quicker and more accurate than waiting for posts here on the forum.

yeah, i called a place today. They said between $80-$120 per wheel.
this price seems pretty outrageous.

I was just wondering what others have paid and deem reasonable.

i was hoping for $20-$40 a rim. like i said, Minor curb rash...

That sounds about right. I had a friend get his rims repaired for his Miata for about $70-80 per rim. Given that fact that you are in CA, that's good for a 5-10% increase in labor cost.

The guy who wanted to repair mine works on volks and works all the time, probably the best in florida, i believe he charges 120-150, but thats also for re-finishing. This is definitely one of those things that you get what you pay for.

there is some ways to remove curb rash on your own.

a hand file and a lot of time can remove a good bit of curb rash. a friend loaned some wheels to a girlfriend and in a matter of 2 months she curbed all four really badly. he spent a while refinishing them with a hand file, tires removed, off the car, and was able to make them look almost like new. you can do it too as long as the damage is NOT on the spokes as they are hard to reach and curve right in most designs.

hmmm, i dont know. i'd be afraid of completely ruining the wheels with a file. i can see it now, i'd have file marks all over the rims. they'd prolly come out uneven and be unbalancable.... :\

Plus, sometimes i just dont have the patience. i like fast results. i think i should leave this to the pro's.

Is there a write up somewhere on the net on DIY curb rash repair? I'm going to go searching right now...

Thanks Owen! BTW, your car is manual steering correct? hows it feel with so much tire up front? Mine is really easy with manual steering, but i only have 205's up front right now.
