Cool Coilovers or stock "like" suspension?

Hey guys,

I've been debating this for a very long time so I need everyone's honest opinion.

My car will be mainly street driven. So it has to deal with a lot of bumps on certain roads. It will also be seeing the road course (but not often).

I've been thinking of going to an R1 suspension even though it has that "lift" look to it. But alot of people are saying go aftermarket. Cheaper and better than stock.

I would like a setup that won't need endless adjustment. Just something you can quickly throw in and perform but not beat you up (or the car) at the same time....

I currently run Koni yellows with Ground Control coilovers. I'm very disappointed with the results. I don't have my stock suspension lying around because they were worn so I would have needed to get brand new ones. That's why I went with GC's....

All major brands have been considered.

What are your honest recommendations?

Thanks guys,
Later,

I'm going to go with a set of JIC FLT-A2's - adjustable dampening coilovers. I'm sure someone else will chime in on all the features (or a search on them will turn up a load of information). My decision is based on reports that they are high quality, new technology, not noisey, and comfortable on the lower settings - comperable to the stock R1 suspension.

ding ding... time for the magicman to chime in...

If you are looking for a nice set up with out a real big price then you can go with the JIC SF-1 series stuff.. it is basic and it is great quality...... If you are into achivieving the most performance with your car then you would want to go with the FLT A2 system... features include: monotube damper, 15 way adjust, ride height is adjustable seperate from spring preload so you can have almost any ride height with out sacrificing any suspension travel. sound good?.. It is also complete with upper mounts(spherical bearing, or "pillow ball" type)

Sound gooder? well this kit can be ordered in street or track set up as well.. check out the web site
www.jic-magic.com for a list of dealers in the USA.

then call Auto R&D cuz they are an FC/FD specialist.

peace

your friendly neighborhood magicman

Compromise for comfort and superb handling

Yup, the JIC's are truly comfortable in comparison to every other monotube coilover I've researched. The FLT-A2 is the only way to go.

list out at $1850.00 so you know you're getting what you pay for. Don't lose suspension travel when lowered, doesn't need helper springs, doesn't rust, doesn't go "woosh woosh". hehe.

Contact me for your club pricing. Every penny counts.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you,

Rishie

Is there any particular reason you don't like this combo? I know a lot of people who run this on the street and they think it is perfect. If your car doesn't handle right check to see if the alignment is off or if your tires need replacing.

Cool

Thanks for bringing this topic back up. And thanks go out magicman and adj for the suggestions.

The reason why I don't like the ride right now is because there's not much travel in the suspension. It's great for handling but absolute murder for everyday public roads.

So the guys at the shop are going to do something for me. The spring seat is at the top. The springs are very stiff and short. So we're going to get a softer rating spring and longer so the spring seat can sit somewhere in the middle of the sleave. God willing this should improve the ride without giving up too much handling.
I think this should work out fine.
And no I don't have an alignment problem. And the tires are brand new S-03's. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll post how the results went.....
