Coating Brake Rotors/Avoiding Rusty Rotors
Coating Brake Rotors/Avoiding Rusty Rotors
I've search and didnt come up with anything. When i bought my brembo slotted and cross drilled rotors, i had the option to coat them. The guy said it woud be coated in cadmium or something. Does anyone know where to get this done at and what it is coated with. What i'm trying to avoid it the rusty brake rotors peaking through the rims.
Thanks

I am not sure where you can have them coated after you have purchased them but I don't think the coating will accomplish what you are looking for.
The coating will keep the rotors from rusting but the area where your brake pads touch the rotors will wear the coating off fairly quickly and that area of the rotors will be able to rust just as if they were never coated.
Besides if it is just the rust that appears overnight or a few days after a rain (with out driving the car). That rust should go away the first time you use the brakes from any speed at all.

Well thats te things, where the brake dont touch is the only place where rust builds up, in the bevel of the drills and the slots. Also one of the main ones that bothers me is the rusting of the hub. So I'm pretty sure coating will help me out.

You're right; you can get them cadmium plated which will prevent the hub area from rusting. You can also just clean the rotors thoroughly and paint the centers with high temp silver paint. I did that and it works very well.
