Yesterday evening I took my FD out for a spin and noticed a "clunk" at the right rear. It was most noticable when driving in 3rd gear at about 3000rpm. just tipping the accelerator and then releasing it, again a tip on the throttle and backing of... every time there is a "clunk" when releasing the throttle...

Is this the famous bushing issue?

 

i dont know about the FD, but on the FC that would indicate a broken diff mount. maybe??

If it only clunks when on and off the throttle hard and not also when braking it is most likely the diff bushings.

I"ll jack the car p this week and check for issues

 

check your rear bushing,i had the same problem a month ago affter i replace all 6 rear bushing and the problem go away.

 

and you should use the oem one,it is much better then those nilon one

 

well yesterday, after the ride and noticing this noise I stepped out and tried to "move" the wheel either vertical and horizontal to check if it had some play on it... it didn't

Either way, I"ll check this week what's going on... I still have my daily to get where I want ;-)

 

Along with bushings check to ensure the PPF is tight and not broken. I have also had the problem and it was a broken PPF.

 

well. I finally got to the job and checked the car out.

Had a look at the diff bushings but couldn't see anything worng, no crakcs in the rubber or signals of wear. diff hanging pretty tight.

checked the PPF beginning from the diff bolt up untill about half way the car but no cracks to be found. I don't really know where it's used to crack so if somebody could point that out??

What I DID found was that when I sat before the rear wheels, grabbed the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock I could notice some play (vertically no play). Conclusion, trailing arm play.

I took a long shot and contacted Jimlab to find out if he could still supply his bushing kit, but is no longer possible.


Any recommendations what extra things I should check, where specidically (PPF?)
would be highly appreciated

Call Cam at Pettit and get his busings. If that does not cure the problem try elsewhere. Cam is pretty good at helping you with your problem. Just remember when you pick his brain you should be fair and buy his parts.

Tell him Allan Densmore in Boise ID said to call. This way he will know you are serious and not just another kid wasting his time. He will help, and he is a great resource to have on your side.
