Chrome rims.....nice or not??

I'm probably buying rims soon and i'm wondering what everyone thinks. I'm leaning towards Gunmetal but everyone I talk to says chrome. Also anyone with pics of chrome rims on an FD please post.

Who have you been talking to? Do their cars bounce up and down or are they SUVs with tinted windows? Go with anything but chrome.

I don't like chrome rims on anything EXCEPT black cars. I think they look fine on a black car but I prefer gunmetal.

i prefer gun metal rims. But i must say, i love when they have a polished lip. It adds the bling apeal and still dont weigh much. crome rims are for cars that go slow. you are only making your car go slower by adding heavy *** chrome rims.

I agree with you guys. I told them they were F-ing crazy. Who would put Chrome rims on a real sports car.
I like the Gunmetal rims also. That's actually what I'm looking for now.

It's not really whether they are chrome or not, but more the style of the rim in chrome. I've seen quite a few FD's with chrome rims, but not "homie spinner rims".

There is a Silver FD in my area with chrome 5 spoke rims and it looks amazing. The main problem with chrome is that it will look dirty even when it's only just a little dirty. Gunmetal can get away with a little more dirt before they start looking bad.

Another thing to consider is the chroming process dramatically weakens the wheel. If you auto-x or road race, you can suffer a broken wheel. At my last road race event, a Viper had a chromed wheel shear completely off of the hub. Apparently at Viper only events, a good tech inspector won't even let you on the course with chromed wheels....

Here's a really crummy pic of my car with chrome wheels. I really like them. They are stock wheels. Sorry for the poor quality.

if you want alot of attention and turn heads go with chrome, the negative of chrome is that they start to develop corrosion pretty fast. i would go with hyperblack or gunmetal myself

I think it depends on the color of the car? I think gunmetal looks good on the darker colored cars, but lighter rims on lighter cars.

To me chrome rims make them look heavy. They are good for SUVs and trucks though.

Unless you are talking about an uncoated hard anodized rim, I have yet to EVER see a painted finish that will hold up like chrome will. Most finishes including anodized are clear coated, check with Fiske, or Forgeline, see if they clear their rims, I don't think so because they won't hold up as compared to an uncoated finish. That said, esthetically I would usually agree. I do like the SSR SP1s Chuck from Rotary Extreme is putting on his car, and I will be using those on my track car.

Keep in mind there is a difference between Chrome and polished.

On a performance car I don't think bling-blingin' wheels have much of a place. I put chrome wheels on my truck, but I'm all about the bling bling on my truck.

If you like 'em, more power to you.

I don't personally enjoy chrome on sports cars. Looks tacky and out of place.

Leave the bling for the SUVs and trucks. And the occasional luxury car.

those are work termist sc-1 what im looking at getting for my car they only come in 18's or 15's. Those obviously are 18's probably 18x10 in the rear and 18x9 in the front at least thats how i would do it. They are on the endless fd in the new import tuner as well you can get a good look at them there and they are gorgeous.

I dunno, I've never seen any nice chrome wheels on an fd really... I mean, some cool looking chrome wheels, but none that fit on an FD. However, my FC looks pretty nice I think with some 18*9.5s. You see, I was going to be buying some 18s, but was having a hard time locating any that I liked... Heh, my mom is crazy, so for my birthday last year she bought me some wheels (without telling me), so I was like "Great..." when I saw the boxes, but I opened them and put em on, and what I saw wasn't so bad... I actually grew to like it, so I kept em (hey, they were free). Maybe I'll wash the FC tomorrow and take a pic... if not then, I'll get around to posting it sometime...
