CCW classic vs. Volk CE28N

Right now I have a set of Black 18x10 +50 CCW classics (track models) wearing 285/30r18s on all 4 corners. Im now thinking this may not be the optimal setup for me, as Im not really going to be tracking the car much at all, mostly just street driving. Plus, Im removing my power steering , so Im thinking the 285s up front may be a nightmare as far as wondering on the street. Ive been thinking of selling them and picking up a set of 18" black CE28Ns.I'd also be shaving off a few pounds at each corner. Here is a link to the offset page:

http://www.autornd.com/catalog/image...olkCE28N10.JPG

If I do go this route, Id like a little help with the offsets. Id like it to be as far out as possible, I also own an eastwood fender roller, so I would be willing to push out the fenders (rears). Any chance in hell that 18x10.5 +18 would fit out back with a 285/30? And I realize the 18x9.5 + 47 would work well all around, any idea how much I could get away with running the +42? Thanks for any input..

the +18 is a no-go. The +42 will work, no rolling if it's a 9.5", and if it's a 10.5", it'll only need a minor roll. The +47 will work too, obviously, but might not be as aggressive as you want for the rear. It would work nicely up front though.

I wouldn't worry terribly about the 285 front and no PS if you're converting the rack the right way, w/out the loop line, but I don't blame you for wanting a lighter, flashier, slightly narrower wheel. CCW classics are sort of utilitarian.

I don't see it on that chart but Volk use to offer a +45 offset on the CE28N. Might want to have Rishie double check if still available. I'd suspect the rear fenders would need rolling for these.

Looks are subjective, but I do think the CCWs would be a better track wheel. They are only slightly heavier, but are stronger, offer cheaper/easier/faster repair if damaged, and you can fit a 285 all around, or pretty much anything you want with ordering custom sizes/offsets.

The 9.5 +47 may not clear big brakes up front (if you are running them), according to Ray's website.

The typical Volk fitment would be 8.5/9.5.....but there is a 17x10 +45 that would work at the rear. With 8.5s up front, would result in a 245/40 and 275/40 fitment.

Ok, Im thinking about dropping down to 17s, just because there is alot more friendly offsets in that diameter. Im thinking of going with the 17x10+ 45s out back, and for the fronts, going with the 17x9.5, but Im having trouble deciding on offsets. I know the +47 will be safe, but can I go with the +42, or will that extra 5mm really cause be alot of rubbing issues?

With my current 18x10 +50, running 285/30s, tire height is 24.7", and with a 255/40r17, would be .3" taller, and the wheel lip would be sitting 2mm further outboard with the 17x9.5 +42s (if I calculated correctly). I just want to have an aggressive fitment, plus these wheels look alot better in a lower offset.

^^^

I've run a 17x9.5" +42 w/ a 275/40 up front, and in my opinion it was track-only. It rubbed. With a 255/40, you'll be a bit better off, and can probably get away with it. Get your fenders rolled if they aren't already.

Roll the fenders and you should be fine as long as you don't slam the car. However, I wouldn't recommend anything larger than a 255 size tire.

After a bit more consideration, I may end up going with Enkei RPF1, in 17x9.5 +38 in the rear, and 17x8.5 +40 fronts, running the same 275/255 stagger. They are almost the same weight, only the enkeis are less than 1/2 the price. Anyone have much experience with this wheel as far as strength? As good quality as the volks?

PM me with how much you want for the CCWs if and when you decide to sell them.
