caliper swap

I have a '90 Rx7 with 4 pot calipers and was wonder if there was a difference between the ones I got and the laters 93-96 4 pot calipers, and if I could swap them out?

thanks

They are the same.
FD's run larger diameter rotors though, and no these rotors do not fit.

okay so

-I can swap the later calipers for the early ones

-it's just that the later rotors are a larger diameter and will not fit the earlier spindle/knuckle? as the caliper would also have to move out radially.

is that right?

thanks for the help the main reason why is because the later ones sort of look cooler. So if I have to get new ones might as well get the "better" ones.

Uh, did I write it wrong?
They are the same thing.
They don't look any differently.
They use the same brake pads.
You basically cannot tell the difference between the two side by side.

Yes, you cannot fit the FD (1993 - 1995 RX-7) brake rotors cause they are too large diameter.
They will bolt onto the hubs - they are all 5-lug 4 x 114.3mm bolt pattern, but it'll hit the brake caliper.

thanks again for the help.

I have the ones on the bottom. Did I mistake the other calipers for something else? I hope to use the ones on top in place of the ones on the bottom. They look close but I was hoping for some confirmation, has any one done the swap before?

thanks

Everything RETed said, except they DO look different, as you have pointed out. THey should be completely swappable.

Oops, I don't go staring at too many FD's with stock front brakes.

This explains the "squeeze cast" manufacturing of the FD brake caliper.
It's supposed to be slightly lighter than the FC unit.
But, for the most part, they are identical in brake pistons size, brake pad dimensions (they use the same brake pad part numbers, especially for aftermarket brake pads - "HB155"), and mounting position.

From everything I've seen and heard, they are basically the same. One arguement in defense of the FC calipers though stated that the fins on the FC caliper might be able to dissipate heat better.
