Yeah, I know he's used the advanced designs (ground control) alot. Not his favorite, but for those on a budget they get the job done. He says the next step up is ~$1k per shock...
As far as the JIC's, even though the shock dyno may look better, I have talked to many people who have said they aren't reliable at all and are crap for what they cost.

Most of the products that JIC sells are crap and don't last very long. I have seen numerous different JIC pieces fail for no apparent reason on several different cars. That is one company that I have no idea how they are still in business.

I have many sets of the D1 suspensions for the 3rd Gen in stock and one set for the FC. Buddy Club USA has been very slow on fulfilling orders so if you want them, you should get them right now. There is no ETA on when the next shipment is going to be. The D1 suspensions for the FD or FC are $975 a set +shipping. List price is $1280 so you know you are getting a good deal.

here are more shock dynos, if anyone is interested.
there is also a very brief potential explaination for the huge amount of damping force on page 2 by sccguy. pretty much, all he says is that they may be trying to compensate for the shock fading as it heats up.
also, question for you: the rebound adjustment range is fairly wide, at least when comparing to other brands. if you look at the graph for the fronts, they go (at max velocity) from 4000something newtons to 10k newtons.
so if your boss recommends half the damping (i'm assuming he meant half of 10k newtons?), then its still there, and these shocks would do the job just fine.

I'll ask my boss more about it at the track today. From what I remember him saying, he was not only looking at the rebound being very high (don't remember which setting he was specifically looking at), but in relation to the compression dampening.
a couple of friends have run JIC and absoutly beat the hell out of them, and had no problems. I just know their customer service sucks. But the flt-a2s are a good coilover. It also depends on how often you take them off, and clean them and take care of them.
