The HPS is a more streetable pad than the HP+. The HP+ will dust more and won't be as quiet, generally speaking. The HP+ will give more bite and high temperature resistance.

 

Another thing to mention since i do run HP+ on the street is that they are very harsh on the rotors compared to HPS, and also I tend to need more pedal pressure when the pads are cold (which usually is most of the time on the street), but when they do heat up they are excellent. I dont recommended these pads for the streets. I tend to get some gnarly noises from the rotors once in awhile also. But for the track, the pads are great, they are easier on rotors then most semi race pads out on the market and the work well for track use.

 

my rotors have 25k miles on them with HP+'s, and they look fine (slotted, and the slots are still there). they also have excellent cold bite. i dunno why our experiances differ lol

 

I run HP+ on the street as well and they are pretty quiet and only dust moderately. Rotor life has been excellent. Perhaps you are not bedding them in properly or using them on rotors that have been seasoned with other pads?

 

OK guys. I've been reading everyone's comments and replies and I appreciate what everyone has contributed so far. Here's MY reality. Currently running stock Mazda pads and rotors. Mainly take the car to shows and 1 club drive each month. Occasionally autocross the car (maybe once or twice a year). Under normal driving conditions I'm a very light braker, so I'm not hard on pads. Just looking for a little better street performance over "stock" with some upgrades to "appearance" without the potential problems that "cross-drilled" might present. Also running Motul fluid. Not sure if this criteria will change anyone's opinions.

I still recommend the Centric rotors or Centric's Powerslot rotors for a little extra eye candy.

For street driving of that nature, I like the Axxis Ultimates, Hawk HPS or Ceramic or maybe the Carbotech brake pads.

And for appearance, I agree with gracer7-rx7; the Centric Powerslots.

 

Endless SS-Y pads would do well too.

 

Received a strong recommendation on Porterfield R4S pads. Anyone using them??

 

I have never used the R4S but I have seen past threads on them. I'd call up Porterfield and get their input on your choices. They sell Hawks and other pads as well. They are usually pretty helpful.
