Question Brake pads...B-Force vs HC vs OEM vs Mazdaspeed

I need to replace my brake pads and was wondering if anyone tried these pads out. I currently have EBC's pads and they suck. B-Force cost $100 for the front and HC-Titan are $160. The Mazdaspeed is around $200.

I don't want a pad that causes a lot of brake dust, squeaks, and are not ruff on the rotors.

If this is just for the street, get Hawk HPS for a lot less money than those pads you are looking at. If you are looking for street/track pads, forget it. They'll all dust fairly heavily and some will squeal.

I'd recommend either the Porterfield R4S or the Carbotech P+ - I've used both and really like the R4S compound for a street car. Fairly low dust and noise, dont have to be too hot to get initial bite, and great pedal feel/modulation characteristics

What don't you like about the EBC pads and are you running green stuff or red stuff? I'm about to install a set of green stuff this week.

From my friends experince both red and green suck. Their overated.

Suck doesn't explain much? Do they have bad initial stopping power (i.e. when cold)? Are they hard to heat up? Do they fade quickly? Do they eat up brake rotors? I've searched the forums and I don't seem to find any real complaints about them.

B-Force pads stop great. Didn't fade once the whole year they lasted. Brake feel was great and initial bite was also great.

BUT! They dust a hell of a lot. The metal masters I'm running now don't dust at all, but they suck compared to the Project MU's.

I have the B-Force pad as well. I use them for street and a few track days each year. Very happy with them so far.

Kaotic Dan - You are the second person who said they dust alot. I have not had that problem. What rotors are you using? I'm running stock rotors.

I have green stuff pads on my car, and I'm pretty happy with them. They're the only ones I've used, though, so I can't really compare. The only real complaint I have with them is that they tend to fade, but that might be because they're work down and need to be replaced.
What about Hawk HP Plus? I've heard that they're good pads, and its what Racing Beat sells. Anyone here have experience with them?

Good initial bite, bad fade. The street ones dust to much for street. The "track" ones are quite crappy for a real track car, or a real track. For an autoX I guess their fine but tracks down here in the south (Sebring, Moroso, Homestead) have lots of straights then a lots of corners with braking. The fade was bad. BTW this was on a lightly modded WRX, with a Stoptech brake kit.

Ok, I guess it wasn't because the pads were work down. That pretty much describes the experience I've had. They have good feel and initial bite, but start fading after a few good stops, sometimes before that. And while they say theyre low dust, they sure didnt seem like it to me.

I'm using the stock rotors.

I think EBC's Greenstuff brake pads are a waste of money. They cause too much brake dust and the OEM brake pads stopped much better than EBC's.

I tried to contact JT-Import on getting my hands on Mazdaspeed's pads, however, he has never responded to my e-mail and it's been a few days. I'm going to try this local shops in NY, which carry Project Mu pads. Money is not an issue, I just want great brake pads that stop very well, and that doesn't cause brake dust and squeaks.

For those having problem with the EBC pads did you follow the break-in procedure they recommend?

It seems I see a lot of 'they make so much dust and don't stop much better than stock' followed by 'I broke them in as recommended and I have almost no dust. Stopping power is a bit better than stock.'. Seems a concensus that they do fade if you try to use them for track braking but that can be a function of a lot more than just the pad.

I'll add my 2c on how they work out for me in another week or so (they should be getting installed tomorrow, my new rotors finally arrive today).

Yea he got the bed in procedure online, and did it right. Im sorry for that price to stop "a lil better than stock" I prefer to get better pads, or just the Hawks. Hawks are fine for street, and you can always getting some heavy duty pads for track. BTW Our rotors are tough, their not crappy or fragile or anything.

If you are driving on the street, the stock pads will be fine. No dust, no noise. You already know that they work well.

When it comes down to my FD everything has to be perfect. With the EBCs I broke them in properly and had my rotors resurfaced by my Mazda Dealership. I had polished stock rims and it was filled with brake dust in a very short period. I currently have gun metal Racing Hart rims and you can't notice it, because of the color. The bottom line is that the EBC sucks and are overrated by their own ads. I would strongly recommend you to return the pads before installing them.

I put EBC Reds on today. I'll see how the dust is from them. If they dust bad I'll return the greens I have and get some other type of pad for when I'm going to be street driving the car more.

I assume they're going to burn up quick, we'll see just how quick. As far as braking performance they grab a lot better than stock as expected. I can get the ABS to activate with a full hit on the brakes from any speed 30+ mph (on new 225/50/R16 Yoko Avid V4S, stock rims).

I'll get at least two autocross events in on them in the next month. If possible maybe another FD with stock suspension will be at the events and I can do a swap with the owner. (hopefully they're a forum member too) We can do a compare on the same track and post the results.

I used EBC Green's on my CRX. The chewed the ship out of my expensive xdrilled/slotted and angle veined rotors. I had to turn the rotors three times before I threw them away and they were still 2/3 lif left. I replaced them with some carbon pads from Summit Racing.

I've got hawk HP+ on my FD and FC. doesn't dust enough to be noticeable washing my FC every other week or so, but seems to dust more on my FD for soem reason.

Still I feel there great pads, VASTLY better than the stock pad feel was. and pretty cheap for $68 a pair to my door from RX7store.net.

I'm running Stillen Cross-drilled rotors. BTW, I have never ran my 7 on the track, so my review of them was pure street driving.

I dont know what I was running, but my pad feel was great... stopped on the dime, I noticed almost no fade at all from highway racing 110+ stop and go... maybe its just the brake design on the fc... but dust got the worst when I really, really, really abused on it, and even then it wasnt bad at all.... The rears are if I had drum brakes NO DUST whatso-ever.... Imma see what type of brakes they are and ill share them with you people... Try to see if I have the box....
