Brake Mods for 86 NA

I've got an '86 with the 4-lug setup. The braking power is completely inadequate when I drive hard (5 minutes of hard downhill mountain driving and they fade away). I would like a setup that can take 20 minutes or so of track time on "track day". Do you think this is do-able with the 4-lug setup and single piston calipers? I have cheap aftermarket pads and stock rotors, which frankly have been turned a couple of times.

Thanks,

Eric

You need to upgrade to the 5lug setup on the GXL and turbo cars. The non vented rotors of the 4 lug car can't reject the heat fast enough and they are only 10.1" I believe too!

There are a few sets of 5lug conversions for sale here on RX-7club and on the parts trader.

Very easy swap to do in one afternoon. You do need new rims though! $150 or cheaper for T2 set of 4 easily found on the web (16x7).

Then get some Hawk HP+ pads or comparable.

This about going to a full floating hub system as well, much safer and stronger!
