Best way to paint wheels

Hey all,
I was wondering what would be the best way to paint my stock FD wheels a gunmetal grey. And if anybody know of a website or can give me step by step instructions and everything I would need, that would be awesome.
Thanks,
Nick

Ive been thinking about this also. Dont have any advise except that it would be wise to sandblast them first. You can get them powdercoated for like $30 a wheel so I havent yet decided if it would be worth the time and effor to paint.

Why sandblast them? Just for paint adhesion? What is the stock surface on the wheels, do they already have a paint on them? Could one just paint over it if they do?

I have been foolishly contemplating Kameleon colors on the stock FD Rx7 wheels. Like the gold to silver or blue to silver. Would one have to top it with a clear coat on wheels? Could one attempt this with spray cans at home, or would it be only smart to have a real spray rig apply it?

If you want to just get a general idea of how to repaint your wheels, close to the stock color, then check this out:

http://www.silverbulletrx7.com/wheels.html

If you want to know what your car would look like with Gunmetal wheels then check this out:

There is some info on that thread about how to paint them too. Hopefully that will answer your questions.

I painted my wheels gunmetal grey, I posted pics on this forum. I LOVE it. I guess its been 6 months now. Duplicolor sells a special wheel paint.

EDIT: oh yea that link above is me, hehe.

gunmetal goes with any color. even Montego Puke. I think they look best on a black car, I would be interested to see them on a silver car, visualizing it ...I'd think that would be the least flattering color to put gunmetal wheels on, due to the lack of contrast.

I have a set of panasport wheels that were a touch darker, I ended up using Aircraft stripper to get them clean.. The stuff was awesome... it took off the paint and brake dust in a couple of coats, and now I am back down to bare aluminum (no scrubbing). I am definately going to add this to my spring cleanup routine...

It sure beats hours of scrubbing trying to get that brake dust off each spring.
