Best tire size for FC?

What do you think? Probably looking to hit around 300 horses to the wheels... 255s in the back and 235s up front? Wider? I've looked around, and it seems 255 or 275 in the rear seems to be the consensus.. and I've heard anything above 235 (depending on the tire) will be too wide for the front.

Depends on how much power your're making, your suspension, your LSD, and your preferences. Just be sure not to get big heavy bling rims and LOSE performance to rolling and unsprung weight

you probably don't need wider than 255s with ~300HP. Kumho MX have been working well for me with a little over 300HP to the wheels. What size/offset rims are you using?

The RE Amemiya Super G FC can do a minute lap of Tsukuba and run 255's all around, with overfenders up front... and it has like 450 HP (side port, Trust TD07).

This is with ADVAN A048's, of course...

If you have too big of a size difference between the fronts and rears, you'll understeer...

Also remember that if you have wide-*** tires, you might not be able to use all that grip if they're so wide that the tires never warm up properly.

Yuh, thanks guys. I'll keep all of this in mind.

@fastrx7r1: I'm seriously considering going with some used 'Stang GT rims after seeing some other guys use them. They look awesome without center caps on FCs. I believe they are 17x8+35? Lots of tire companies seem to think that 255's are good, works for me. Either way I have a long time to figure this out. I'll be running stock rims w/ 205 BFG gForce Sports for the breakin period.

I love budget rim upgrades from other cars (so long as they fit) Did it for years with many of my past cars.

I would recommend trying to keep the front/rear widths close to each other to keep a neutral balance. I loved my Turbo II and GTU with 205s all around but didn't like it as much with 205f/225r b/c of the increased understeer. Also try and make sure that overall diameter of the rim/tire package doesn't increase too much over stock. The 275/40s run about 1/2" or so bigger in overall diameter than 255/40s. Larger diameter affects gearing to a small degree and can also make the car feel a little less peppy.

Thats been my experience anyway.

Well I think I've decided that I'm going to go 255 in the back, 235 up front. I was looking around, and not many tire companies like 275s going on an 8 inch rim. Which is fine, 255s will be more than enough tread...

It's just a safety thing for me, really. I want as much grip as possible without being completely outrageous.

If its a safety issue you could try to brake eariler! Also, compound matters more than size. 205's that are race compound would grip more than 255s, but the 255s would last longer.
