Actually I've heard that the TEIN's start leaking pretty fast if you do a lot of hardcore driving

Best for what purpose? And I assume money is no object.

If I were shopping today, I would be inclined to look at the JICs. I would check out the DMS, too, but I don't know much about them. I have the M2 coil-over conversion with GAB superRs now.

Aragosta is supposed to be really bad *** from what friends and relatives say in Japan. I would go with the Tein Flex. My friends got Tein HAs on his Sw20, and no leakin, and the good thing is they can be rebuild here in the US

You're also forgetting

Endless/Zeal (they do have a US office).
Buddy Club
Blitz (manufacturer is SACHS. They offer them in Japan)

As well as numerus other brands in Japan.

Ground-Control not an option?

IMHO this is somewhat of a silly poll question. So few people have experience with more than one kind of coilover it is impossible to get a true comparison and people end up voting for just what they have or what a friend has.

With a bit of thinking and planning you can start with a good quality set of shocks and build your own coilovers with a trip to a circle track or drag racing shop and $150.00.

I have Ground-Control coilovers on my FC and the race car I am building will have Ground-Control on it too. The only other experience with coilovers are on a buddies Miata that were peiced together from a local race shop.

The most important part of a "set of coilovers" are the shocks. And not just based on name brand, they have to be valved properly for the selected spring rate.

BIOT suspension

Biot is a company Border Racing has been using lately, instead of Aragosta. They feel its a higher quality product and a better price point

12 way adjustable, with a dual spring setup. The "tender" helper spring is a softer rate, and allows for smooth driving on the street.. when the load overcomes the spring, it collapses flat, and bring the higher rate, primary spring into play. The spring seat looks unique also, I wonder if someone can translate the text from this pic:

I am in the process of getting some english information, but seems like a high quality product. Retail pricing would be about $2400, but possibly better on a group deal if we can get 5 or so people interested.

They also do a Brembo caliper setup that looks nice,

Let me know if there is any serious interest and Ill get more technical information and get Jason to put together a group purchase.

Thre were a few good replies and as Max pointed out "best for what kind of driving" there is also "best for the price" and "best at any price" like Opistons choices.

Maybe your poll should have been mutiple choice and asked which suspension everyone has used and post comments good or bad, because how else could someone judge which was best if they haven't tried all of them unless everyone read the same reviews.

Nice reply on Border Racing "BiCuspid"! Any info on Buddy Club?

KKK93rex- Asking what the best suspension, is like asking what is the best car. You can't compare an S.U.V. to an Rx7 blindly, if however you mean which is better on a road course that is different. Suspension is a very subjective topic. You have to decide what your buying your suspension for, what your goals are, and the like. If your just looking to lower your car, just buy some springs and shocks. If you looking for something along the same lines, but want more height adjustability then maybe the Tein HA's are for you. If your looking for something you can take occasionally to the track then maybe the JIC's or the Tein RA's or the HKS are the best. Each brand has many positive attributes and some negative ones. You have to determine your usage, and your needs before you can find a suspension system best suited for you. Start a new thread with all your possible uses and requirements, and also price class, then let everyone comment on what they feel the best system is for you try out.

I completely agree with Cooper. This question can't possibly be answered unless you detail what function these are for.

Detail the thread some more. Best for street, street and track, only track, rally what purpose. This survey/poll will have an enormous margin of error.

if money was no object, I would be inclined to get the apex'i n1 pro's for street or track. people who spend good money on suspension should know that there are going to be comprimises to ride quality and should not bitch and whine about stiffness-- if you want a comfortable ride stay stock, otherwise just get nice suspension. Out of all the coilovers i've seen, the apex'i handle better than the TEIN HA's, mazdaspeeds, GAB R's w/ground controls, and even the hks hiper among others. These coilovers are the exact specs as used in N1 endurance races in japan. In the near future, I plan on replacing my gab super r's and getting the n1 pros

Actually I would say Penske. But the price is pretty high(1300 per corner without springs). But I like to live by the rule "you get what you pay for".

Actually, they're $825-850 per corner for the double adjustables. $1250-1300 is for the triples...prolly not required by most (it has fast rebound or was it fast compression settings?).

But they are very nice.

I know RE Amemiya makes a very nice coil over unit that's about $4,000, not sure if it's worth it or not, being RE Amemiya it might be overpriced just because they're basically the king of rx7 aftermarket. On the other hand however, they're the king for a reason...

I'd like to know more about the Penske's myself, I'll be in the market for some racing suspension soon, and I won't be happy unless I have the best

The Apex'i N1 unit sounds pretty nice, I wonder how it stacks up against the TEIN RA's and JIC FLT-A2's, and also the seemingly higher end units such as the Penske's and RE Amemiya.

Let's get some experts on this thread

Penske has great tech support. You should try to give them a call if you are looking for a custom setup.

With Penskes u can build the shim stack anyway u need it. Also, they offer various pistons for linear action, velocity-dependent or digressive (for riding huge curbs). And the external reservoir can be tuned by adding/removing nitrogen in it. Not saying it's the best out there but prolly one of the best.

Here's a vid of my car in a slalom (the beginning part of the vid only). Notice the car doesn't jounce or rebound abruptly during transition. http://www.ballisticarts.com/videos/isvtrailer2win.htm

BTW, for Penske dampers, contact Guy Ankeny @ www.ankenyracing.com . He's on the SCCA committee board and has tons of tuning experience. Nice guy too.

If money is not a consideration, Penske's or Ohlins is the way to go

I believe the all conquering SCCA SoloII champion car(Guy Ankeny's) was running Peske's.

Wael El-Dasher may have some info on Ohlins

I believe he is a distibutor for JRZ shocks which are also high end units.
