Exclamation Bent Anti Sway Bar Brackets

Both my front sway bar brackets are bent.
I called up a mazda dealer and they told me the stock brackets tend to bend alot.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket compaines who make stronger sway bar mount brackets?

And how much would they run me?

Thanks.

My front sway bar mounts broke recently, so I had to replace them. I researched them and found that there are a handful of companies that manufacture braces or replacement mounts or a combination of the two.

m2, tripoint, crookedwillow, racing beat, SR

I went with widefoot swaybar mounts from crookedwillow. The reason is cause they have frame clamps built into them which prevent the side-to-side motion that breaks the stock sway bar mounts. They also raise the sway bar about an inch for better clearance. (my racing beat sway bar was scraped up a little from being too low).

I got them in today, and they look like really good quality. I'll probally put them on this weekend and I'll update you on how they fit and work.

I also ordered them from Crooked Willow Racing. They appear in the pictures to be very very strong. This eliminates the pressed steel bracket completely. They run $277 currently. I paypal'ed them with overnight shipping for $300.50.

I should have them installed this weekend as well. I also have some other stuff being done as well.

I will give my feedback as well.

Hey Lenny, how did you like the ride in the car - other than the passenger-side door not opening?

oh yeah, check the frame where it connects to the swaybar mounts. That will crack sometimes when when the swaybar mount cracks. Look around where the mount bolts onto the frame for small cracks.

i checked again to see if anything else was cracked and the only thing that is bent is the brackets. no cracks anywhere else.
hopefully my mounts from SR motorsport will be arriving anytime now.

My frame rails were cracked also. The Racing Beat white brace was also bent. I need to get that brace before installing everything again. They welded the frame rails - it looks great.

do you guys know why yours bent? running over curbs, acutal contact, accident, or just the forces of the sway bar from hard driving ?

that's gotta be some strong force to bend the RB sway bar reinforcement bar...

I do not know how mine was broken, because I bought the car with the broken mount. but generally they are broken because the stock sway bar mounts will rock laterally when cornering. I dont understand all of the suspension geometry involved in it, but from what I've heard (and what i've seen with my car and carcrazy's car), the RB bracket doesnt do much to prevent this type of motion.

Did you guys break the brackets with the stock swaybar or did you have an aftermarket bar on the car?

There have been a couple documented cases of the Racing Beat front sway bar, breaking during track events. If you have one, check it, and be very careful. A broken sway bar is a VERY VERY bad situation while driving.

Under normal use, the stock sway bar should be fine - as long as you don't hit anything. The sway bar mounts are quite "light" (read - flimsy). The Racing Beat sway bar is quite beefy. There are two problems with the Racing Beat sway bar:

1. sits too low and is easy prey for getting hit by the most minute of obstacle. I think my wife hit hers while going up a driveway.
2. The sway bar does not allow anything to really flex as the bar is its components are quite beefy. This allows and puts much stress on the frame rails. These will crack around the bolt holes. They did this with mine.

I have a 93 r1 and currently run the rsr springs and Tri-point sway-bar reinforcers (after I bent the brackets) that I got from mazda motorsports-had them on for about 2 years and NO problems whatsoever. These things are solid and strong as hell, as they have a triangular shape and are made of about 1/8 thick steel.
I am VERY Pleased with my suspension setup- however i do want to get the AD coilovers and trailing arms and toe-links for my car next.
