the only thing that comes to mind is that the stock struts are OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if you think that they are bad then i would get a new ones also. if you dont want to spend alot of money i think koni yellows are a good coice. i got the tein ha's a little more than what you wantto spend. i think it depends on what you plan to use the car for. i think rishi is the man to ask he gives good advice to everyone. come rishi i know this is calling your name

The stock shocks won't work well with really stiff springs, so be careful not to go too stiff. On the other hand, you might get some coil bind with soft springs, depending on the length. I have 8" 250 lbs/in springs in the rear of my car right now and they coil bind before you hit the bump stop (not good). I have some 7" 350 springs to install that should clear that up. I used to have 7" 450 springs on there that worked fine (but were stiffer than I wanted). Stock is 200. That kind of puts you in a tough position to choose a spring that won't bind or be too stiff for the stock shocks.

The other issue is if the same threaded sleeves will work on both your stock shocks and whatever you intend to replace them with.

So, while it will "work", you might not like the results, or you might have to buy different sleeves later. I think I would scrape up the $500 to get some Bilsteins or Konis and just do it all at once. Or stay with the stock springs until you can afford the complete setup.
