anyone try wynstar tires?
I want some cheap tires, i went down to taylor's tires. the guy told me about kumho ecsta 712's which were $69 dollars each, but he also mentioned wynstar's at $55 dollars each, these tires will be for my 205/55/16 turbo II wheels on my turbo II with a lot of autocrossing. But this season of autocrossing will be mostly for fun and learning, not really competitve. so i want cheap tires that won't crumble or chunk, you think these wynstar's are straight? anybody bought some of these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW
these look like them, although this is a 215 while i'll be getting a 205.
anybody got any other suggestions? anyone have these tires?
thanks, zach

accelleration = tires
braking = tires
turning = tires
driving (and auto-x) = acceleration and braking and driving
its easy math
no matter how many mods you have, the only thing that actually touches the ground is the tires. get the best.

no, you don't sound like and ***. you just sound ignorant about tires. it's ok.
i have plenty of experience with MANY tires. cause i get to look at them all day and see how they've worn with the amount of milage they have on them.
off brand tires, and many BRAND name tires(bridgestone/firestone) are CRAP. utter crap. i know you don't want to spend much, but sleejay said it right the first time.

well then, what tires do you suggest? I want long lasting, cheap, autocross tires. the performance of the tires doesn't have to be so good, as long as they don't tear apart, this car will be driven a little bit on the street. I still like the idea of the 205/55/16 falken azenis sports, but they don't last long do they? what about kumho ecsta 712's? what tires do you suggest? thanks a lot.

I've had the Kumho Ecsta 712 for about 28k, they are starting to get thin, but I've been happy with them. My brother-in-law used to manage a Discount Tire and recommended them. They were siped and I couldn't even turn them over when new and the car was stock. I do get a bit of wheel hop off the line, but most of the siping is worn off now.

$90 dollars each huh? so, (with a $40 dollar installation) $400 dollar tires on a $500 dollar car. I don't know, i'll ask some of my autocross buddies, the president of our association used to have falken azenis sports and he bought two sets, i raced his wrx one time with those tires and they were nice but i didn't know that car, plus he has 3* degrees of negative camber. I want the azenis but will they last? they are also only $79 dollars each on edgeracing.com

what about these bf's? only $74 each, with good review, but i want autocross review, i think if these tires can last 30k miles on the street then they can handle autocross no problem.
im still looking at some more.

yoko avs es100 look pretty good for $83 each, i will consider. but i am biased towards the bfg's because on my 1st gen I had bf's on the back and they lasted through my burnouts, drifting, and just overall murdering, right before i changed those bf's i did 4th gear donuts and 2nd gear brake stand for 6-7 seconds solid, they still did well for that rediculous crap which im not gonna do to these new ones. i think im going to buy the bfg sports or the kumho ecsta 712's (but soft sidewalls doesn't sound nice for autocrossing).

Maybe you could try the Fuzion ZRi's. They're cheap and are made by BF Goodrigh I beleive, so they are of decent quality, and they tested reasonably well in the tire rack test. If I had to getr a cheap set of tires I'd sriously consider these. You don't want to get crap tires, you'll regret it for every mile you drive untill they wear out (or untill you replace them because you hate them, wasting the money you paid for them).

TRR,
PLEASE do not get the Wynstars. You will regret it! When I was working at Michelin (corporate) we had "dealings" with a retail tire shop expressing that Wynstars were made by Michelin. We gave the particular compnany until the end of business day to remove all accounts of that tire being a product of Michelin.
Being the curious testing freaks Michelin can be, they purchased a set of these tires to see what they were capable of. Well in one word, "CRAP". They didn't even last the morning session of the two day test (morning on autcross section, pm test loop 1.8 -"racing" track).
The G-Force Sports made by BFG (a Michelin subsidiary) are truly quality tires. Since I'm no longer an employee of Michelin, I can tell you that they tested better than BFG KDW's with regards to longevity and water evacuation. With regards to dry weather grip, they are almost on par. My feelings were that they were very close to the KDW. The way they fell off at the limit of adhesion was progressive like the KDW with more noise-and trust me when I say you'll appreciate that audible warning in the long run as it teaches you the limits of your driving style a a lot quicker than without.
The Fuzion are not made by BFG. They are, in fact, a product of Bridgstone's Firestone labs and no they did not perform as well as the BFG G-Force tires. Hope that helps.

I've had a set of the Wynstars. They do fine on a low powered car for regular street driving, but there is no way that I would run them at an auto-x. I've had that car up to the mtns several times, and it was noticable that their grip was not up to the level that I am used to. However, for regular daily/highway use, they did ok.

Man I hate to bring a dead thread back to life but I just can't resist it. I've been reading posts on tires for the last hour trying to decide what to put on my T2 and came across this thread. I bought an '88 'vert in November of last year with new looking Wynstar 205/60/15 tires on it. Finally put it on the road 2 weeks before we did an RX-7 meet at Deal's Gap in April and figured worse case I'll kill some cheap tires in the mountains. It's been 7 months now and I can't wear these tires out. At Deal's Gap I had no problem hanging with with anyones car and got several comments on how the car looked like it was running on rails and what driving schools I had been to. On runs by myself I had no problems pushing them to their limits. On a recent "back road" drive we made I had no problems keeping up with 2 RX-8s runing up to twice the speed limit on twisty country roads. On the highway at 90mph they ride and handle great. On city streets I zip around corners like crazy. It's driving me insane. If these things are that bad I'd hate to think what it would be like if I put "real" tires on it.
