Anyone running Tein HA's?

Going to order suspension soon and the HA's caught my mind. It's basically between the HA's and the Flex but the EDFC doesn't interest me. The car is mainly street driven but will be Auto-x'd and Open Lapped from time to time. Any input on this suspension would be great.

Nevermind after a more in depth search it seems people don't seem to like the HA's. But if anyone has first hand input I'd appreciate it.

The springrates on the HAs were actually pretty low, 10/8 kg if I remember correctly.. not too stiff when you think about the people with 16/16kg, especially around here.

I have the HAs. The spring rates they came with were TOO STIFF for the street. (10/8). I ordered up some 8/6 springs and put those on and it is much better... although to be honest, I still think they're a little too stiff... but at least it's not the horrid ride on the 10/8 setup!

This is for an FD. Tein didn't give me the impression the HA's were discontinued. Maybe I'll just go with the flex after all.

i had the tein HA's and got rid of them because they were to soft. i switched to the Tein RE.. loads stiffer! i can think of at least 2 guys in my area with the tein ha's and they both love them. in my opinion the ha's are a great setup for people on a budget and people looking for a good ride for daily driving. i am looking towards getting into some autocrosses and what not. another thing to think about is your road conditions. if you live in an area with crappy roads then a stiffer supension will rattle your fillings out. florida roads a basically flat well paved roads for all the old people you guys end here in the winter.

I attended SEMA and the 2004 catelog no longer shows the HAs. Only a new model that is not currently available. Of course you can still purchase the Flex model, but I was really hoping to get HAs at the lower price. Anyone aware of retailers who still have them in stock?

Well they still have them listed on their site and as I called Tein they made no mention that they were discontinued when I asked about that setup but who knows it may have just been their salesperson.

My problem with the 10/8 springs is that at high rates of speed the street, the car was so stiff that it would go airborn. I drove down a stretch of highway (uhh the Autobahn) that I use every day... I was doing around 100 and I hit a small dip. The car felt like it was in the air I swear. My head hit the damn roof when it came back down! The softer springs allow the suspension to soak up stuff like that and keep the car more stable.

That's my beef with super stiff springs on the street.

Wargasm is your car daily driven? I don't mind the stiff ride since I won't be driving it more than a couple of times a week.

10/8 is actually around where all coilovers start, IMO thats not super stiff, but thats ok.. I used to have HA's, and I didn't think they were overly stiff, and I drove the car in San Francisco.. potholes everywhere. I do complain about 16/16 setups however.

and yes, I daily drove on 10/8, for a year, it was fine. actually my new setup is 10/8 also.. no complaints.

How does 10/8 and the HA setup compare to the stock R1 suspension? Will it be similar or A LOT stiffer?

Broken09 - I do not DAILY drive it, but I do drive it mostly on the street with the occasional track event.

RCCAZ 1 - in my opinion, the 10/8 is quite noticeably stiffer than stock R1. I honestly think that for a street car, spring rates should be close to the stock R1, but of course, I like the HA because I can lower the ride height.

Thanks for the feedback Wargasm. Maybe I'll just have to spend the extra bucks and buy the Flex. That way I can adjust the ride stiffness to fit the situation. I'd hate to buy the HAs, install them, then hate 'em. Who has the best online price on Teins?

Thanks again!!

uh, flex still comes with 10/8 springs, and are still 16 way adjustable, same as the HA's were.

The only difference between the Flex and the HA is that the FLex comes with pillow ball mounts and the electronic adjustment box. Other than that, they are identical I believe.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm learning alot. Looks like I may be back to HAs with possibly softer springs. I'll probably just try them first and change them out if I don't like the feel. I think a larger issue on my car is the stock "hard as a rock" bushings. I'd like to do it all at once (new bushings and shocks), but again, it probably won't happen until tax return time... that is IF we get money back this coming year. We'll see!

HA's have pillow ***** as an option. the only thing the edfc does is adjust the dampning level...it doesnt adjust height in any way
