anyone running M2 springs?

Cant find an answer from searching, so im gonna ask. Anyone here running a set of M2 springs, what are your impressions of them? im looking to lower my car a little and improve handling are these the way to go or are there better. I knoe they are progressive rate, are they compatible with stock struts? Thanks for any information you can throw my way.

I asked a simular question a while back and didn't get a lot of feed back. If your interested in springs that are compatable with stock struts go with H&R. SleepR1 swears by them and he knows his stuff. Do a search for sleepR1 he has a good write up on them.(on racing beat springs too?). The H&R are progressive RB are linear. Those two seem to be the most popular from the guys that run aftermarket springs on the forum.

Are you talking about the new M2 stock-replacement spring with track-worth 550/450 rates? I don't remember anything saying they are progressive rate (those numbers represent front to rear rates), but I would think you could get away with running them witrh stock R1 shocks (as manny does w/ the H&Rs) but not with regular base/touring shocks. Thoser are hefty rates, my friend.

Are these the M2 adjustable coilover springs or just normal lowering springs?

I know M2 makes the coilover springs at around $400, but do they also have normal lowering springs?

They are NOT the same springs used for their coil-over conversion kit (which is re-labeled Ground Control). The M2 sport/track springs are 4-inch diameter progressive springs. The coil-overs use 2.5-inch Eibach ERS linear springs.

SlyderZero:

I would listen to Ptrhahn. He knows his stuff. The stock base/touring shocks just won't cut it. You will need Koni's or GAB's (or perhaps stock R1).

Hey what do you mean the base/touring won't cut it? Are they too soft? Too high? Compared to the R1 shocks?

Is it me or that my FDs base suspension feels very stiff?

The stock base/touring shocks do not have firm enough valving to control 550/450 rate springs. They are probably not firm enough to control ANY aftermarket springs, especially if they are 9 years old....What will happen is the shocks will not be able to dampen the spring movement enough and you will go up-down, up-down a lot more than you'd care for....

Just do it right the first time and, at the least, put some stock R1 shocks on.

If the base suspension is too hard for you now, perhaps leaving the suspension alone would be a good idea. Or, get some some adjustable shocks like the Koni's that you can turn to full soft for daily driving.

i stand corrected, the M2's do say they are progressive. In fact it says the 550/450 is the AVERAGE rate... that would lead me to believe they start softer, and end up heavier? Wow.

In any case, they are not the same as the 2.5" ERS linear rate springs that come w/ the coilover kit, they just have rates that mimic it, but on a stock-replacement spring.

Your car would likely be pretty bouncy w/ stock shocks.... besides, the labor for install is almost as much as new shocks, so why not replace them while you're in there, and avoid paying (or doing) twice, when the shocks wear out.

True dat brotha!

I think that my base suspension is rather stiff right now, but not enough to give me aches/pains from riding in it for long periods of time. I would like the car to be slightly lowered tho. But yes, if I were to change my setup I'd go ahead and do it right the first time...... Can't cut any corners for the FD......
