Question Anyone running ksport kontro pro? (FD) If so...

What are your spring rates?

I'm having some issues with mine, no matter how i adjust them the car still bounces like a ****!!! ive tried already different levels and ways to possible adjust them but the car just keeps bouncing while im driving like if i was on a honda with cut springs!!!

I looked at their chart for the different types of coilovers for the FD on their page and none match with mine I guess mine are too stiff but i wanted to see who else is running and maybe compare spring rates to see if somehow i got the wrong springs in my box. I got these new straight from ksport (sealed box) some time last year, but ive only driven my car a few times during all that time and then it was just sitting in the garage for over 7 months till now.

These is what my springs have on them

Fronts: 12-180
Rears: 10.5-180

Thank you guys!!

^ No personal experience with those shocks but I do know that on cheap coilovers a lot of times shock dyno's have found that the adjustment ***** don't do squat didally.

The springs they came with are wrong. The bouncing is because you don't have enough rebound valving for that high of a spring rate.

Thats what im guessing, since they dont match to any of the rates on the 3 types of coilovers they have for the FD on their page. what rate of spring would you say i should look for? (im not good at this rating thing lol)

I wonder if they would exchange my springs

lol, well i got a hold of ksport and i was told that the springs are correct for the car, that the numbers on the springs do no represent the rates. So i guess what i have to keep doing is messing with the adjustment, probably pull them out and start from zero

The thing about companies like K sport is that they do absolutely zero R&D. They use the same damper for every application without changing valving. The only part that changes is the spring, brackets and top hat. The fact that the shock is height adjustable independent of the spring doesn't have much to do with performance, it's more about making the the assembly modular and cheaper to manufacture. They can just screw on a different bottom bracket and it fits a different car.
The theory around this is if you have a car that weighs half as much as say a Mercedes, you just put on a spring that's half as stiff. Then the valving will work right? The shock is compressing at the same speed and rebounding at the same speed right?

Not really. Like almost all things mechanical, there isn't a linear scaling factor. For instance it takes about 25kg of force to make a monotube shock move at all. So it's going to feel smoother on a heavier car than a light car unless you adjust the gas pressure accordingly.

That's my main problem with the Taiwanese manufacturers. It's nothing racist, it's not saying they can't build something good (Tien proves this), it's just the business model. I don't want to generalize the whole Taiwanese industry so I guess I should just focus on Ksport. But Ksport is known for knocking off D2. All of their products are D2 knock-offs with different paint and sometimes they make other little changes. But people buy them because they look fantastic, they have good features, and their cheap. But what matters is on the inside and the only way to judge that is with a shock dyno test.

Wow.... If i only would have known that before i bought them. Honestly i didnt know they produce knock offs and at the time i bought them i wasnt really into the forums like now, and since the people i was around at the time were mostly 240s and so, must of them use them including a lot of the dedicated drifters here. So i figured it was a good affordable product and also because i couldnt afford others like Stance, Apexi, HKS or Re-a, etc.
But now i remember that when i was looking for coilovers someone had said that D2 where trash, that i was better on going with Megans lol.

Every product you just mentioned except for HKS and RE-Amemiya is made in Taiwan. Don't be fooled by JDMness either, business is business and everyone is manufacturing in Taiwan. The only one that I can't actually track down the factory for is DG-5/Kei Office. They have a great reputation but I haven't found the actual factory yet. Someone made a map a while back highlighting all the factories for Megan, Buddy Club, G4, D2, Apexi, Ksport, Iasati, etc in Taiwan.

Eibach Multi-pro R1 is made in California but not available for RX7.
