Anyone here powdercoat their rims?
Hey just wondering if anyone here has taken the time to powdercoat their rims?
I have a VR Rex and want to powdercoat the factory rims flat black. Part of the reason is because there are a few minor scratches and brake dust that won't come off so I want to paint it black to hide it more easily.
If so, please give me details on how long, what color, results and anything else that you can provide.
Thanks
-Dan.

7-Sins that is like about the perfect color next to the black color.
But it took you a whole month? This other guy that I knew powdercoated his rims black and each one took about 2-4 hrs.
Would you happen to have a step by step process of going about the painting process?
Thanks.

thats not paint....
I didn't do it myself... the only equipment I could get my hands on was a sandblaster. I did the sandblasting then sent off the rims. I was claimed it would only take 3-4 days but there was some big mixup with them misplacing the powder and having to order the color again. It was a pain in the *** at the time because I wanted to take my car out but I think it was worth the wait. I got all four coated for 120$ which is a hell of a deal, only thing I found localy was 100$ each.
Oh yeah, here is another pic in darker lighting. In lighting like this they look almost black.

wow, i'm surprised BATMAN wasn't the first to jump on this thread. Anyways, if you are in the bay area, he is the guy to get in touch with. The person that does his powdercoating does a pretty good job. PM him just make sure that he doesn't talk you into powdercoating the rest of your car though while your at it.

I got mine powder coated flat black,
paid 200cad for all four
we found some shop locally that powdercoats handrails etc.. to do it, while the local wheel paint/powdercoat shops wanted ~800cad

I know folks will accuse me of bragging and such, but after seeing some of these powder coating job on the forum and the ones in person at the Seven Stock......... i will say that you will be impressed with the guy I use. I have had samples done from various places and the bottom line is my guy does the best job that I have seen.
After all he does powder coating for clean room at NASA, HP, Intel, Lockheed, etc......

that is the optical illusion you get when u powder coat black. it makes the rims look 1" larger.
I had 225/50/16 all around.
My current setup is 235/40/17 and 255/40/17 with RP01

Hey BATMAN it's me again, just wondering if you can powdercoat the wheels to that same color as the one pictured above with the Dark Charcoal Grey?
Thank.

It has to do with positive and negative charges..........they hook an electrical lead to it, then spray it with this dry powder stuff in whatever color you choose (the charge makes the powder stick to it), then they cook it for several hours in a 400 degree oven..........I guess it sort of melts it and it bonds like cement...........

Yo,
http://www.rx-7.org/events/SevenStoc...4-115.jpg.html
Stock TII/GTUs rims powdercoated Gloss White by Maas Brothers powdercoating [ (925) 294-8200 ] in Livermore, CA. They did an acid dip to get rid of the factory clearcoat and then powdercoated them. Took about a week at approximately $40 for each rim.
They came out totally awesome. No blemishes, no ripples. First class work.
I've been driving/racing on them for about 1.5 years and no issues at all, except for cleaning them.
Hope that helps!
