Anybody make a lighter SSR Integral wheel?
Anybody make a lighter SSR Integral wheel?
I have decided that I like the styling of the SSR Integrals for my black '93 Touring, but I don't like that they are as heavy as bricks compared to the SSR Competitions.
So, who makes a lighter weight version of the same wheel? Cheaper would be great too
Thanks guys.

The SSR IA2s are relatively light compared with other cast aluminum wheels in the same sizes. The 9 x 17, 45-mm SSR IA2s are ~19 lbs--which is what what a set of Forgeline RSes wheels weigh in the same size and offset ! A typical 9 x 17 cast wheel would weigh between 25 and 27 lbs each.
Besides, if you're running the wheels/tires strictly for road use, you want strength to be a major concern. As light as my Comps are, they are strictly track-only wheels (with Hoosiers), and I wouldn't use the Comps for public roads, as the Comps might be too fragile for our pock-marked Indiana roads!

Konig Villains are basically the same wheel, but are a tad lighter. They are available in 17x8 and 17x9 was well, although I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) in a less preferable (>45mm) offset. They are cast instead of SSF so they probably aren't as strong, although there is no test data to prove this.

SSR integral are NOT cast, they are semi-solid forged and very strong. Their weight isn't quite as light as TE 37s or SSR comps, but they aren't $500 per wheel either. The worst part about them is that they aren't available 9.5" wide. They are a great deal for the $$
Villains ARE cast, cheap and will bend.

I have never seen any proof (or even evidence to SUGGEST) that the SSR integral is any stronger than the cheap knockoff wheels... other than all the marketing hype. And I'm sure the marketing hype really means a lot... <sarcasm>

The "proof" is in the forging?unless you consider forging "marketing hype" You can pretty well bet that a forged wheel is far stronger than a cast wheel of similar weight. What do you think makes TE37s so light/strong?
