That's well beyond what any tire manufacturer would recommend or what any GOOD wheel shop would mount.
Of course, I'm predicting that the guys running 235s on 10" wheels will be chiming in soon....

You need to know more than just the series. You also need the profile. That will change how the wheel fits greatly. The size posted above is a 225/45. Props to the guy who stretched azenis.
That isn't a huge stretch. But it looks nice.

225/40 on a 18x9.5
of course the stretch will also depend on what actual tire you're running. widths vary a lot between different brands/models of tire.
this picture is bridgestone RE050...

Drifters claim it increases the feel of the car in extreme situations.. like drifting.
Then again, most people who are constantly drifting don't care to invest in a good set of tires which can give equal feel while being much safer.
Wide rims were made for wider tires, not for looking cool... unfortunately Fast 'n Furious has convinced the less educated otherwise. If you want to run 225s, get a properly sized rim (I have 225s up front on an 8" rim, and I wouldn't stretch 'em any more than they currently are.)
Just my .02

my .02 cents, is that it looks better (an opinion thing). and it does make a difference in response. stretching helps to stiffen the sidewall a bit, so it makes the rear feel more predictable.
FYI, 7.5 inches is the recommended width for a 205/40. the range is 7-8, but they recommend 7.5.
lol... what does that movie have to do with stretching tires? I guarantee you there is not a single car with stretched tires in ANY of those movies.
and also, aftermarket wheels are made for looking cool. 90% of the time for nothing else. ****, most of you guys that claim you need huge tires and everything on your car should be performance only, don't even race your cars (not saying all), and run huge all-season tires, or something.
do you have any idea what you're saying? where do you get this information from? how many guys that are 'constantly drifting' do you even know?
as for me, the whole reason I stretch tires is because its stupid, and to **** you guys off. so, whatever. have fun hating!
My miata has 205/40/17 Azenis on 17x7.5 rims, and those are stretched more than I like.

I like to Picture Baby Jesus with like... these stretched tires on his car, and these eagle's wings... and he's driftin' around Daytona and making all sorts o smoke... And I'm in the front row, HAMMERED drunk.
Lets just say that Stretched tires are more responsive, have stiffer sidewalls, and allow you to ruin a good stock RX7 with "shitty" wheel fitment, all the while looking stupid sliding around a car that was never designed to do anything but win IMSA championships in the 1980's, or win Car of the Year Awards from Car and Driver.
Stretched tires are protecting the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden, they are currently promoting Socialism and Communism to America's enemies, and they also do not support abortion.
Oh, a pic. Stretched Tires are SUPER dangerous. They make you catch 2 feet of air at 150mph at Nordschleife.
