Was hoping to go back to TIRERACK, but surprised to find they carry only two options for 245/45-16 street tires (running stock wheels on an FD) and neither are very satisfactory.
During a search I learned that DISCOUNT TIRES 2 GO carries Z-rated TOYO PROXES in that size. I've never dealt with them, or know of anyone who has.
Any experiences out there?

I just got some Azenis RT-615 from there, they got shipped out quickly and got to me fast(because I'm fairly close). Pretty good prices too.

I ordered some Toyo's for my M3 from there in the spring. Shipping was fast and I had no issues.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of Toyos did you get and how do you like them? FWIW I'm looking at the Proxes T1R. A friend has a set and is happy, but this would be my first time.

They are ok. Sidewalls flex quite a bit. They are a good street tire and handle wet weather really well. They are quiet and the ride quality is decent. I'm not too sure they would be all that good on a road or autox course, but for the street they are a good tire.

Have you considered the 225/50-16 stock size?

Tire rack has the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs, Yoko Advan AD08, 'Stone RE11, Hankook RS3, and Kumho XS in that size. I'd far prefer any of those over a 245/45 T1R.

 

No, not really.
T1R's don't sound bad, but I'm still looking. If can't get a satisfactory set in 245/45 on the stock wheels, I'll move to 17" and use these wheels for dedicated 'R' compounds. I'd just prefer not to do that right now.

 

What's so bad about 225/50s? They're not as wide, but you're also not stuffing a non-ideal 245 on an 8 inch rim. Whenever I've driven on that setup, turn-in felt vague and squirmy.

 

That's not been my experience, and IMO there's nothing "non-ideal" about 245/45s on stock rims. Even spec pages at TIRERACK indicate that. If I went to 245/50...which is where all the choices are at in that width and diameter there might be.
And while I understand the loyalty to a sponsor (I also would have preferred TIRERACK), we're off-topic.

 

What Rich is suggesting is that going with a stickier 225 tire will be better than a less sticky 245 size tire. Personally, I would have picked a different tire if I could have but the M3 tire choices are pretty limited due to their strange sizes and I didn't fee like paying for PS2's.

The Toyo's aren't bad, but there are better tires available. It just depends on what you plan to use them for....

 

Kyle pretty much sees where I'm coming from----has nothing to do with loyalty to sponsors.

a 245mm tire on an 8 inch rim is not ideal in that you have a tire that is really too wide for the rim width. Sure you can do it, but being that you have some really killer tires choices at 225 that blow away a subpar 245, the choice is easy (for me at least)

8 inch rim=225
9 inch rim=255
10 inch rim=275/285

These are the proper fitments for non drifter crowds, or the more traditional crowds.

 

I haven't made up my mind on tires. Maybe waffling is a better term. I started out hoping to get another set of KDWs or try GSD3s. For the first time in while I'm checking with some local shops to see what they have.
I've got all winter and have considered just getting a cheap set that will get me by for a year or so until I make the move to some 17' 99 spec Mazda wheels and use these for R compounds.

 

Let me know if you want an extra set of stockers. I'm thinking of selling my stockers with Victoracers mounted on them.
