Another wheel/tire fit question.

Hi all,

I have searched and studied. But of course, there is never a straight answer for my specific case. Chart is pretty confusing and I just don't know how things change with different widths.

I just want to pick more brains through this post just to ensure that I am ok.

F: 18x8 +42
R: 18x9.5+ 38

235x40x18 front
275x35x18 rear

I am staying in stock height. Do I need to roll the fenders on the front? I don't want to roll the fenders. What other size would you suggest that doesn't require fender roll?

Thanks a lot.

I would choose a wider wheel. 18x8 is puny and doesn't increase the performance of the car at all.

If I had a choice I would look at a 18x9.5 +45mm and run a 245/35/18 or 255/35/18 tire. Run -1.5 degrees negative camber in the front and you should be able to squeek by without a fender roll.

The rear I would run a 18x10 +38, 265/35/18 tire.

This will offer the best handling and performance of any of the options. a fender roll is not needed in the rear. run -1.3 degrees negative camber.

You would not have to roll the front.

You would have to roll the rear (which is way more permanent).

Thank you so much for the replies.

Maybe I should have mentioned this in the thread, I have '94 FD.

I have no choice of wheels at this point. I have imported BBS RGRs from Japan and they are what they are. I could careless about performance. My FD is for looks only. I have a bone stock FD with 36K miles on it. I need a small update in looks.

Blue, not to argue but I have been told otherwise, I may have to roll the front but not the rear. I see your point of the rear being permanent as the front fender can be replaced.

Are we still thinking the same with regards to the fender roll now that you know that I have an FD?

Thanks a lot, I am getting ready to go buy the tires.

275/35/18 is too much for a +38 offset. 265 will barely squeeze, best fitment is a 255/35/18 on a 9.5" wheel and will clear the fender easy.

Thanks again for quick reply.

Any recommendation for the fronts?

How precisely I need to match the height in the front for the ABS to work correctly?

Is 235/40/18 ok with 255/35/18?

Would have saved me 10 seconds of my life looking up your profile to see you have an FD before I posted.

Yeah, my recommendation on the rear comes from having run that +38 offset with a 265 on my FD. With -1.2 camber the 265 *just* barely cleared on stock rear fenders while scraping the lettering on the sidewall.

255 will work on that rear.

Tastes vary, but you say you are going for looks only and the tires you have chosen to run are too wide for the wheels and will look off with the bulged out low profile sidewall.

If I was forced to run those wheels for some odd reason I would choose 215/40-18 front and 255/35-18 rear tires.

I haven't noticed any problems with ABS in the past running stagger wheel/tire on the FD when I have done it just the horrible understeeer.

Tastes do vary, and so do tires!
275/35-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 18x9.5 +45 (and 245/40-17 on 17x8.5 +40 up front):

IMO, not bulgy or pooched at all.

I did find 265 a bit stretchy on my 17x10, will have to try 275 or 285 next time around.

Will get them mounted tomorrow

Let's see if this choice was a catastrophic failure.
