I don't believe they are 8's. It must be a typo. I know the 87-88's were 7.0" wide.

Yes. FC rims came in 14"x5.5", 15"x6", 15"x6.5", and 16"x7".

I am pretty sure that the specs are for FD wheels (based on weights, sizes, brittleness, the PFD logo) and simply mis-labeled as FC wheels.
