Should you swap the fronts to the rear and vice versa?

About how often (if yes)?

I just had the local Goodyear place put Aquatred-3 tires on my wife's CR-V yesterday, and I got a lecture about having them rotated frequently (front to rear since they are also uni-directional). He basically suggested that the should be rotated at every oil change, but of course he's thinking that will be 3-5k miles. In a couple days, when (if) I get my car put back together, I have a set of 245/45/16 S-03's for them to install on my R1. I expect the same lecture.

As far as the interval, I don't think it really has to be that often for most tires. You're only doing this to even out treadwear, right? If I expect the tires to last 40k miles (I don't BTW), then why not just rotate them every 10k or 20k? I guess it's just a matter of how even you want to keep the tread.

Most tire shops say do it every 5000 miles. front to back back to front.

i don't rotate mine, i do good to afford 2 tires much less 4 at a time. i buy 2 and put them on the front and move the front to the rear.

You should actually put the new ones on the rear. This will give you better grip in the rear (especially in bad weather), so you are much more likely to understeer than oversteer if you get in trouble.
