85 Brake drum attaching screws needed?

Are the Brake drum attaching screws needed on an 85 rear drum brake setup. I am speaking of the two small screws that screw into the outside of the brake drum. They are interfering with my new wheels. Can I just get rid of them all together?
Thanks in advance!

Question Brake drum removal

The manual makes it sound simple. But the attaching screws are not there, just empty holes. So whats holding my drums on? How are conventional drums removed?
